Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

`Canute is used sometimes in New York in this period. One whole line seems to have adopted it forever, but that is rare.
I really did not do much looking up at Nicholas. I think the other line may be the Clute, but if they are in St. Louis, there are a lot of Clutes there that came over from Germany in the pioneer era and made conestoga wagons.. Not the original dutch line.

Hi. To respond to the original query, I do not show the Canute surname among my many Clutes at this time.
To clarify Stephanie's response, the Nicholas Clute living in Rockford, Caldwell County, Missouri with his wife Mary (Wells) and son George Nelson was a younger brother of Richard Clute not his son.

Clutes in Missouri... Richard Clute, born 22 May 1816 Colonie, NY, died 20 April 1884 in Mirable, MO. Son of Gerrit Clute and Elizabeth Fratt. Married Mariah Van Olinda in Niskayuna,NY. Children: William 28 June 1840 married Harriet Miller in Coshockton, Ohio. Lived in Missour as adult. I have three girls and a boy.. Warren 1875 Missouri. Jacob 1848 married Harriet Fort in Caldwell, Mo had a girl and two boys.. Oscar and Eddie. Eddie died young. Oscar married Emma J. Gaddess and died in Cameron, Missouri. I have only daughters for him.
Gerrit 28 Sept 1856 Ohio married three times. Children Walter 1881,John Grover 1893,Paul,William, died young and George 1904. There are descendents in this family. Robert 1855 Ohio ( nfr), Charles married Nellie Kersey ( no further record)..
There is a Nicholas Clute, wife Mary and George N. son livving in
Rockford, Caldwell, Mo as well and He may possibly be the son of Richard as well. .
St. Louis <MO has a Joseph 1845, with wife Anna and Dora A. and Mary C. St. Louis also has a Joseph 1850, wife Annie, and Children Dolly and Maime.. Rockford Caldwell also has a Jacob29, Hattie 28 and Eddie. I

Did Solomon sell land for Clute Tx.? The history said Solomon came from NY. I am descended from Fred Clute, around Missouri early 1900's do not know before that.
