I came across another R J CLUTE, born in Canada about 1850, who was married in Fremont, Iowa to Alice A. Daniels July 4 1881. They then show up in the 1885 Nebraska State census in Omalia, Douglas County. He doesn't appear in the Omaha Directories for 1889-1890 but she does as a Mrs R.J Clute , and separately as Mrs Alice Clute. Their son Fred age 1 in 1885 is in the 1900 census in Arborville Township, York County, NE with his Uncle and Aunt, Lucien Ensign and Carrie Daniels Ensign. I can't find Rj and Alice in 1900.
Do you know anything about this RJ. COuld this be the one that was in Nodaway Missouri in 1880?
Joanna

Thank you for sharing some of your results into your Clute research. As I noted to the one previous post, my Jane Clute has been a particularly difficult person for which to find any information. So, I would, of course, be very interested in any additional discoveries you may make. Good luck.

In my research, i have found that My Great Grandf ather George W., Clute was born in new york in 1839, and it is listed that his father (?william?) came from Holand. I was told that there were three Clute brothers that came to the U.S.A.at the same time, but I have no Idea what the other brothers names were. Since Geiorge was born in the USA it stands to reason that his father immigrated sometime after 1800. I have not been able to pinpoint any Clute's that entered via New York about that time. Of course they might have entered via Quebec, but my impression is that most immigrants stayed fairlly close to where they entered. I've just started, but if I find out more I will keep you posted.
