Don't know about any indian princess but in my research I know that 4 Clutes Charles,Levi,Louisa, and Lydia all attended Carlisle Indian School. I have no idea of there parents or where they came from I'm thinking New York because they are listed under members of the Seneca tribe. Does anyone have any more information on these Clutes

1900 Census Schenectady shows:
George Clute, born March 1849 lives Jackson Place, Schenectady,Ny. His parents are Charles and Anna. He is buried in St. Josephs Cemetary and died 20 Oct 1909. He was a superintendent of Grounds for Union college.. He is in Yates-History of Schenectady , Cemetary, census records and private records of William B. Clute. He descends from recent immigrants from Germany and was catholic.
He married Caroline Melber 1855-1953.
Children: Lewis May 1874, Anna 1877 Married Edward Sweeny, Rosa 1879 Married George Moss,s William M. March 1883 married Emma L. and George May 1885 married Mary Richmond. Found him first in the 1865 state census and it says he was born in Germany as was his parents. This sounds like your George/.
Given as this, you might check immigration and catholic records for him.

Ms. Hochuli will guide you well. I just wanted to tell you that the information on the Clute line in upstate New York is long and well documented with many given names like "Dirk", "Gerardus", and "George" going back into the 18th century. So if you do a little work you may find a long line.

Hnmm, That is a late date for genealogy information. I would check the census first to determine which George. I have probably 10 candidates, but until you pin down the birthdate a little bit, it is hard to know which one.
Check the obituaries as well in Schenectady library. That might give you more information.. Try death certificates.. where is he buried.. Homework first, then someone can probably help you.

Teunise, son of Johannes and Geesie lived his whole life in the Schenectady area. He is buried in Vale, Schenectady, G216. Woestina is in Rotterdam. His adult children lived in Rotterdam and he is there 1830-40-50.. Died in 55. His wife is also buried at Vale.He is in Schenectady in 1820, but since he is a farmer, suspect he did not move, just the town limits.
There is another Teunis, born to Jacob Clute and
Elizabeth Marselis.. I think he was born a little later, possibly 1800.. There is no further records on him that I have found
Ther are several early Thomas that could have been Theodore.. Thomas , born 12 Jul 1781 at Schaighticoke to Johannes Clute and Elizabeth Magoun. There is a Thomas Macaulay Clute, born 8 Dec 1812 to Petrus Clute and Alida Winne. I like him because Theodore named a child Peter.. You must remember at this period, a good many people in the Albany-Schenectady area spoke Dutch and German more than English.. That distorts the names considerably.

Steve,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I did find those two gentlemen. Additionally, upon digging a little deeper, as you suggested, I discovered Clutes in the towns of : Alexandria, Smithville, Pamelia, Antwerp, Theresa and Henderson. I know there were numerous Clutes in the Albany area during this time, so it probably isn't too much of a stretch for some Clutes being in Jefferson County too. However . . . one never knows. No stone should be left unturned.
thanks,
Ken

This Theodore may have begun life as Teunis.. I have him on the 1850 census in Wisconsin and note that Theodore is not a common name for Clutes, but I do find a Teunis born roughly in that period, who disappears from any records in New York.
I note in my census records that there is a Theodore in 1830 Jefferson county, Henderson township, NY.. Page 113..If this is the right Theodore, then look at the states inbetween here and Wisconsin for the 1840 Theodore.

Here are the two Clute families found in 1840 Census for Jefferson County, NY Most likely your Theodore related to them. Erastus Webb apparently also from Jefferson County so the possiblity is great. The next step. Check with NYGENWeb site for Jefferson County and see if you can find anything.
Somer Clute Brownville, Jefferson, New York
William T Clute Brownville, Jefferson, New York

I discovered from some correspondence that I may have had a CLUTE relation in Wisconsin. The information I have resides in both the 1850 and 1860 federal censuses for that state. The Theodore Clute of which I speak was born around 1792. The federal census project of of Pleasant Valley Township, Marquette County Wisconsin notes a Theodore Chute (family 780). You can find him at this link:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimarque/1850plvalley.html
Something that is of equal interest to me is that two doors down noted on the same website is the Erastus WEBB family. Erastus' wife's maiden name was Clute. Of course my immediate assumption is that Theodore and Jane are in some way related. This interests me greatly. But I need more help in validating this assumption.
If there are others of you out there with Wisconsin Clutes, especially those who migrated from NY please contact me.
Thanks,
Ken Webb,
Edmonds, WA
