Hello to the CLUTES on the CLUTE mailing list. My name is Jean Elizabeth
Clute, only
child, and daughter of Robert F. Clute and Margaret Lois Bold Clute. Born
December 5, 1933 in Charleston, South Carolina (Charleston County).
I regret I have little 'history' of our family here in S.C. Here is what I do
know.
Robert Netherton Clute, Born: 2/7/1860, Died 11/19/1937, Brother
of....
Robert Frasier Clute, Born: 1/3/1890, Died 5/31/1932. This Clute is
my grand-
father. He married Claire Boyd Clute, Born: 5/5/1890, Died:
7/19/1968. She is
my grandmother. They had two sons:
Robert Frasier Clute, Jr., Born: 2/10/1911, Died: 5/23/1948, my
father, and
William G. Clute, Born: 5/4/1914, Died: 3/21/1962, my uncle.
My father, Robert Fasier Clute, Jr., married Margaret Lois Bold in
1932. I am
their only child.
My uncle, William Green Clute, married Sarah Catherine Walters (Born:
3/4/1914
and Died: 5/2/1991). They have four children:
Mary Claire Clute - married
Sandra Clute - married
Patrick Clute - married (wife deceased). One daughter.
Robert Frasier Clute, Born:7/1/1949, Died: 2/27/1952
The only other CLUTE I have record of is Mary Lucas Clute Coleman, Born:
2/5/1888,
Died: 2/8/1984. She is the sister of Robert Netherton and Robert Frasier
Clute.
I'm very new at this and hope that I have provided all of you with some new
informa-
tion. I have always been interested in finding the CLUTES who came before
Robert
Netherton and Robert Frasier Clute, my great-uncle and grandfather.
To my knowledge all of these Clutes were born in Charleston, South Carolina
and
died in Charleston, SC.
I'm excited to hear from you.
Good morning!
This is the second week that the CLUTE mailing list has been operating.
I'm pleased to state that we have 10 subscribers in the list mode and 4
subscribers in the digest mode. I think that's pretty good since CLUTE
mailing list hasn't been posted to John Fuller's mailing list page,
Rootsweb's mailing list page or Cyndi's List yet!
There are many changes happening at Rootsweb right now. The Rootsweb
staff has been working on implementation of "cluster lists" for just
about any surname that you can think of.
Be sure to check out the new threaded archives of the CLUTE list at:
http://lists.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/findlist.pl When you first log on to
this page, you must create a user name and password.
I have a question for list members: Are you interested in having
GenConnect Boards established for the CLUTE surname? If you are
unfamiliar with them, follow this link and see if you like what you
find. http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/index.html The possible
categories are: Queries, Bibles, Bios, Deeds, Obits, Pensions, Wills.
One of the main advantages to Boards is that any information you submit
will stay there. That means that each time a Clute researcher surfs in
to that page, your entry is available for him to read. We can have any,
all or none, depending on what the members of this list think would be
beneficial. So let's hear your opinions.
Share your successes and/or frustrations with the list! If you have
made a CLUTE connection as a result of this list, or any other mode, let
us hear about it! Sometimes that can motivate everyone else to dig a
little bit deeper. On the flip side, someone else might see the post
about your brick wall and be able to supple the missing puzzle piece.
(Sorry about that mixed metaphors!)
Have a wonderful Memorial Day. It is sunny and beautiful (and humid)
here in Houston, Texas. How is it where you are?

Hi Kay,
My connection to the Clutes is from Anna Barbara, d/o Frederick &
Francyntje Dumond. She married Abraham Fort. I have seen the Clute
name in various records and ignored it for the most part.
I don't know whether you will be able to connect to any of these people,
but here is a list of persons from the Montgomery County 1855 Census.
Elisabeth A. age 14, born Montgomery County, living in Charleston
Francis V. age 25, born Montgomery County, living in Glen
Garret, age 50, born Montgomery County, living in Glen
Garret R. age 39, born Albany County, living in Root
Gitty Mariah, age 29, born Montgomery County, living in Glen
Hannah, age 32, born Montgomery County, living in Glen
James L., age 24, born Montgomery County, living in Canajoharie
Jane, age 52, born Montgomery County, living in Glen
John, age 54, born Montgomery County, living in Glen
John, age 11, born Montgomery County, living in Canajoharie
L. Maria, age 13, born Montgomery County, living in Glen
Court V. Willette is listed as being 50, born in New Jersey, and living in
Glen. He is living alone.
I will send additional references as I come across them.

Peter Kluck, farmer, age 55, appears on the 1860 census of Scott Tsp, Steuben
Cnty, Inc. In the same household were Mary Ann Kluck, age 41, and
Frederick Kluck, age 16. In the next household were Geroge, 27, and Mahala
Kluck. In the next household were Peter Kluck, 23 (blacksmith) and Caroline
Kluck 25. (HISTORY OF STEUBEN COUNTY has spellings of CLUCK, KLOCK & KLUCK).
Does anyone have any info on there families? I'm particularly interested
in Mary Ann Kluck. Her maiden surname was CRAFT, b 1820 Va. Md 1837 to
David Sines (1st recorded marriage in Kinderhook Tsp, Branch Cnty, Mi).
David died in boating accident in 1859. On the 1900 census of Camden Tsp,
Hillsdale Cnty, Mi, she was living with her son, Simon Sines, and listed as
Mary DILLINGHAM.

Hi Joy,
In Pearson's "First Settlers of Albany" it states Capt. Johannes Clute
(Jans) came to Beverwyck in 1656 from Neurenbergh, was a trader
and land holder in the Albany area. It is not known if he had any family.
When he died, his property passed to his Nephew Johannes Clute.
If we knew the name(s) of Capt. Johannes Clutes brother, we would
solve this mistery.
When I checked the information in your message, I had several questions.
First, do you know what a "bosloober" is? It is not listed
in the list of Dutch occupations that was send a week or so ago.
In Pearson's book the place of marriage of Gerardus is New York,
not New York City. You have an incorrect date for the birth of Elizabeth.
She was baptised 21 Jan 1741. That date is consistant with the other
dates in your message.

Hi Steph,
Thanks so much for your offer. I would like to know more about Frederick
CLUTE and Elizabeth DE GRAAF's family and if you have it, Frederick's
CLUTE's ancestors. Also anything about Isaac CLUTE and Lena BARHEIT and
their children and where they lived. I am particularly interested in
documenting all this, so any suggestions for sources will be appreciated as
I have access to some good libraries if you can just point me in the right
direction.
With much appreciation,

My Clute line goes, so far as I can tell:
Johannes Clute de boslooper (I have in parenthesis: John Jr.),
and his wife Baata Van Slichtenhorst dau. of Gerrit Van Slichtenhorst.
Their son, Gerardus (or Gerrit) Knoet and his wife Magtel (or Machtelt)
Heemstraat. Gerardus' dates were: b Jan 1, 1697 in New York City
(whatever that means!), m May 28, 1725. Their daughter Elizabeth Clute
born Dec.29, 1789, married Col. Jacobus VanSchoonhoven on Jan 3, 1765.
Jacobus was the son of Guert VanSchoonhoven (not to be confused with his
immigrant grandfather Geurt) and mother Anna Lansing (not to be confused
with his aunt Anna VanSchoonhoven). He was a Colonel in the
Revolutionary War. Afterwards he is credited with founding the town of
Waterford, NY. He died Feb. 21, 1814. Elizabeth his wife died Jan 24,
1820. They are buried in land since purchased by the GE Silicone Plant
of Waterford, NY.
I am seeking the same information as Richard Hayes is seeking.

Hi to All CLUTE Researchers:
I join the CLUTE family with the marriage of Garret BROKAW to Maria V CLUTE
23 Jan 1809 at Glen, Montgomery Co, NY. Garret and Maria lived in Cayuga
and Tompkins Cos, NY.
Maria, was, according to the Garret/Maria family bible, a daughter of
Nicholas and Maria (HALL) CLUTE, and was b 1 Nov 1789. I need to verify
this! Looking for the birth record of Maria V CLUTE.
Nicholas and Maria (HALL) CLUTE were supposedly married in 1789. I need
record of this marriage with whatever evidence might be available as to the
month in which the marriage occurred.
What evidence might anyone have as to the children of Nicholas and Maria
(HALL) CLUTE? In addition to Maria I have:
Janetje b 13 Nov 1791 Fonda, m Peter FREDERICKS
Viana b 1798, m Peter FREDERICKS (as his 2nd wife after death of Janetje)
?John b 28 Apr 1801, Glen, m Mary Schuyler ABEL
?Nicholas, b?, m Sophia VAN PATTON
Hannah, b 1 May 1807 Charleston Tp, Montgomery Co, NY, m Cort V WILLETTE
and
?? Margaret, who married Michael FREDERICK - mentioned as child of Nicholas
in Garret/Maria Family Bible. Michael and Margaret were received into the
Owasco (Cayuga Co, NY) Reformed Dutch Church in 1816, the same church to
which Garrett and Maria belonged.
Any information on this family greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello All,
Dana has asked us to submit the CLUTE lines we are researching, but
I am more interested in where the Knoets, etc came from and when they
came to America. I have never seen any reference to any ship that they
came over on.
Another question I have is about Johannes Clute, the land trader. What was
his relationship to other family members in Ulster County or other
parts of Albany County during the late 1600's?

Hi and welcome to the CLUTE surname mailing list!
To get the ball rolling, it would be great if everyone could post the
Clutes that you are looking for.
My elusive Clute ancestor is actually my husband's great grandfather.
Arthur Eugene Clute was born about 1869 in Perry, Wyoming Co, NY. He
moved to Iowa where he married and was widowed two times.
His parents were listed as Charles A. Clute and Elvina Evelan. He had
two brothers, John and Augustus and a sister named Sadie. His uncle was
possibly named Zellis or Jellis.
Thanks...
