HI Peggy,
I am glad to see that you and Claudette have both been successful in your
membership too the DAR!! As I said I too am trying to put togethre the
information to become a member. I would love to send in my application
showing BOTH sides of my family tree go back to the American Revolutionary
War. I have talked with the local chapter here in dayton Ohio and they have
said that they are willing to help me in any way that they can. I don't
have all the connection put together as of yet. I am waiting for warm
weather to get to a few more cemeteries. My connection is my grandfather
who was John Elder Clunk, son of Martin Clunk and Mary Ann Gilson. Now I
know that Marry Ann's father was Richard Gilson and I have a copy of a
Richard Gilson's record to show that he had served his country during the war
BUT now I have to connect all of the Richard Gilson's to my ggreatmother Mary
Ann. I have been told that she and Martin are buried in Gallia county Ohio
and that there is no headstone for them so now I must find out who takes care
of that cemetrey so that I might find the records of burial in the cemetery.
If you wouldn't mind sharing your inforamtion with me I would be forever
grateful to you. I must tell you that I will share it with another cousin,
Carina Slack, who is also a member of this list. Carina is a Gilson by
birth. She and I have become very good friends even though we have never
seen each other face to face. Carina is suffering from a nerve disorder that
is causing hre to become crippled. It has put her in a wheelchair and the
doctor's have told her the more she moves the sooner the muscles with stop
moving. They will just wear out!! She is still young and it has been hard
for her to accept this. It is making it very hard for her to do her
genealogy. She can only type for short periods of time. Her hands hurt and
the fingers just don't want to move i the right way. What I am doing is I
am entering all of the inforamtion on my computer and then I will send it to
her on a disc or CD. That way she will have it and she too can become a
member of the DAR as she really would like to do this. What photos do you
have? Any of the Clunk family members? I will soon have one of my John
Elder Clunk, my sister has the family photo's , if you would like I can send
a copy of it to you, just let me know if you are interested.
Again, please , if you hear from Carina please do not tell you that you
know about her disease as she still is having problems dealing with it. I
love her so much and I just want to help her in any way that I can.
Blessing to you,
Ruth Anderson Bartley
Hello Claudette,
I am so happy that you have found all the inforamtion needed for you to
become a member of the DAR. I have talked with the local chapter here in
Dayton, Ohio and they are willing to help me in any way that they can. I
have some of the information that I need but still need to do a bit more to
find the correct Richard Gilson whose war record I have. Now to move from my
grandfather to his mother to her father and on back to the right Richard
Gilson. I am not sure the connection on the Clunk side of the family.
My grandfather was John Elder Clunk, he was the son of Martin Clunk and Mary
Ann Gilson. I would love to send my papers in showing that I deserve to be
a member of the DAR on BOTH sides of my family.
Would you mind sharing your information with me? I really hate to
ask as I know that you have put a lot of work into it and also a lot of money
getting all of the inforamtion that you needed. Do you have photo's of
those buried in the Clunk cemetery? I know that isn't the name of it but I
always refere to the cemetery where family is buried as theirs. My Martin
Clunk is buried in Gallia County I think. I have been told that there is no
headstone for him or for his wife Mary Ann so now I must prove that indeed
they are buried there. Any suggestions would be very welcome.
I have a Gilson cousin with whom I am sharing information on both sides of
the family. Her name is Carina Slack. She has told me that she is also a
member of this list but I have never seen her roll call response that she
told me she sent. She is also interested in become in a member of the DAR.
Carina is suffering from a crippling disease that has put her in a wheelchair
and is making it very difficult for her to type or to use her computer. She
can only work short periods at a time. I am trying to help her get as much
information as I can so that she too can become a memeb of the DAR. What I
am doing is I am putting things together on my computer and then I am going
to send it all to her on disc's or CD's, that way she too can become a member
along with the rest of us with not wearing herself out trying to get her
family information. Please do not tell hr thatI have shared this
inforamtion with you as she is trying very hard to keep up and to continue to
live as full a life as she can . They have told her that the more she moves
the sooner the muscles will stop working. They will wear out!! I KNow
that she has had a rough winter. Many times she just can't do what she wants
to do and her breathing gets difficult too. You need muscles to breath!
I wanted to let you know that what, if anything you decide to share
with me I will be passing it on to Carina.
God Bless and as soon as I can I will send you a photo of John Elder Clunk
, that is if you would like to have that!!!

Hello All,
I have been busy working on the other side of my family, the married side,
but soon to join Ancestry so that I can really get into the search for the
rest of the Clunk/Gilson/Crain and then the Anderson/Updegraff/Davidson sides
of my family. I have been busy trying share with some of the great neices
and also celebrating the birth of a great great neice this 02-02-02!! CHLOE
MORGAN ANDERSON.
I too have inquired to the DAR about membership thru the Gislon/Clunk side
of the family but need to do some more research before I can PROVE what I
have been told by my Mother. Just need to tie up the loose ends of Richard
Gilson and make sure that I have the right one as there are many. LOL!!
You all know that feeling, there was Richard and he named his son after him
but his brother also named a son after Richard so on goes the line of
Richard's to drive all of the future genealogist nuts!!!
I sure hope that all are fine and just as anxious as I am for the Spring
and Summer to get here. I have found several new cemeteries that I need
to check out for family members and tombstones for dates of birth and death.
I have gotten a couple of the next generation excited about finding family
so now I know that when I am gone the search will continue.
Take care and may all your brickwalls be broken down,
Ruth Bartley(Clunk/Anderson)
I just submitted a DAR supplemental application for myself under Peter Klunk.
If anyone is interested in joining DAR let me know & I'll be happy to share
my information.

Hello everyone,
It's been a while since we have all communicated. I am asking for a Roll Call
to see where we all stand on our research. How is everyone doing....
