Folks!
Check out CLUFF-L's web page! It's still under construction. The only
thing working in the Table of Contents is the "Subscribers" link. Let
me know if anything needs additions or corrections! Great way to
connect to others in your family!

Morning, Folks!
To access The New York Times newspaper http://www.nytimes.com/ back as
far as 1851 online, I followed Nelson's suggestion on my COUNTRYMAN-L
and searched for cluff. 468 hits! Of course, there is a fee to view
the whole article but you can sometimes get great clues from just the
subject lines. Enjoy the search!

I am from Moses Cluff and Rebecca Cula Langmans posterity. I recently found this info on the web. It clears up a few points that were shared through family history.
www.handcarttreks.com/General/History/Martin-Willie%20Personal%20Stories/...
if that doesnt work, look it up on Google. Thats how I found it. I searched "Rebecca Langman Willie Handcart Company"
Good Luck! Connie

I see that you already replied to my questions. I am sorry for reasking, I did not see your reply until just now.
I do have a George Cluff but unless this is pretty recent, meaning the last 100 years, I don't see a ready connection.
My Cluff's are from New Jersey.
Thank you,

I know this was posted awhile ago, but I have some things that might help if you still need it.
I was told, but don't know the story, that Ann Bond, left Moses Cluff and the polygamists (so probably even left the church). In my records Ann and Moses had a child in 1868, and you said you couldn't find her with Moses in the 1870 cencus. So she probably left sometime between 1868 and 1870. It says on familysearch.com that Ann Bond was married to a Walther Wilson in 1899, until her death in 1907. I'm not sure how many or if she took any of her children when she left. But maybe Heber went with her for some time since you couldn't find him either in the 1870 census.
The Eliza Cluff that says Heber is living with in 1880, is I believe, another one of Moses wifes. Maybe since polygamy wasn't legal they didn't list her as married and listed her as a widow, as she was when Moses married her. Because those other women you listed from the 1860 census, Rebecca and Jane (my 4th great grandma) were also his wives.
Also, I'm sure that Heber and Sarah were in Mexico at the time of that census, however, I'm not sure. I also briefly looked for them in the 1900 census and found nothing.
