Sorry it took me this long to respond to your question. However, I
cannot find a George Abam Cluff on my chart. I looked as far as late
1800's-1900.

Cluff List
My interest in the list is to find any information regarding my line of Cluffs, other than names and dates. A genealogy friend researched and drew a family tree for me, with most of the branches, dating back to the early 1700's. At the present time I have not attempted to find out such information as to where many of them lived, their occupation, etc.
My tree consists of names, birth & death dates, spouses and dates of marriage. It is mostly current through the 1960's. If anyone on the Cluff list would like for me look for a particular name, I will be glad to see if I have it.

Nancy & listmates.......still searching for FIDELIA CLOUGH aka CAROLINE
CLUFF born about 1815 in probably Rutland or Chittenden County,
Vermont..
She was Native American--either full or half......Have found no
connection to the Clough family of New England or elsewhere...... She
is my mystery brick wall......... Have found 4 cousins through the
years who know and acknowlege that she was Indian.. but none of us has
found any information on her prior to her marriage to Richard Loomis
abt. 1837..... They moved to Buffalo, Erie County New York, and then on
to Ountagamie Co, Wisconsin, where she died in 1844.........
Was her father a Clough/Cluff (maybe illigitimate)???? Were her
parents slaves/servants to a Clough??? Was she adopted by a
Clough/Cluff....? Was she Abenaki? Soooo many questions and no answers
to be found.......... Juanita.
Folks!
In checking the membership of CLUFF-L, I discovered there are a couple
new subscribers; so why not another Roll Call! This time let's do it a
little different. How about sharing why you subscribe to this list?!?
What do you wish to get out of this list? I'll be brave and start
first.
I'm hoping to find my great grandfather, Charles C. CLUFF's parentage.
He reported on the 1880 census of Highland County, Ohio that he was born
in Kentucky and his father was born in Maryland. I know nothing more
about his ancestry.
Through DNA testing, I have found a distant connection with a George
CLOUGH of Virginia as well as with a Samuel CLOUGH who was born in
Cheshire, England and a William J. CLOW of Prince Edward Island (origins
possibly Scotland). These discoveries are wonderful and I feel a little
less alone. For over 35 years, I have wondered if my great grandfather
didn't climb out from under that infamous rock. I now want actual names
from my Charles back to England. Who was the ancestor who traveled the
dangerous voyage across the "big pond"?
One theory for Charles' father is a Reuben CLUFF who married Catherine
HENTON in Kentucky in 1811. My Charles was born in 1815. Reuben died
in Adams Co., Ohio, a neighboring county of Highland. I recently found
Reuben's son John G. CLUFF in the 1880 IL Census. He reports he was
born in Kentucky and his father in Maryland just like my Charles. The
only difference was the mother's birth place. John G said Virginia and
my Charles said Kentucky. This may been their mother's were not the
same person. I need to find Catherine's death date. I would also love
to make contact with a descendant of John G. CLUFF. His wife was Anne
or Anna JARMAN.
So many questions; so little time... :)
I hope you too will feel comfortable enough to share a little of your
unique situation and your hopes for help from this list with the rest of
the CLUFF-L subscribers.
Later...Nancy
