George A. Clauff had 2 sons. One reached adulthood, my grandfather, Charles Edward Clauff. George had 5 daughters that married and had children. I know of no other CLAUFF line except the families that are direct descendants of George A. Clauff.
I personally have never heard of the spelling CLAUFF in the 35+ years
of research but I did a search just now on google.com and found several
pages of the spelling! So it's ANOTHER variation to watch for. ;)
A surname DNA study is in progress. If you have a direct male descendant
and they are interested in doing the easy cheek swab, let me know and I
can put your family in contact with a rep from Oxford Ancestors. My
family has been linked by DNA to another CLUFF family, we know not how
since one was in OHIO and the other in TEXAS but we're working on it!
Later...Nancy

My gggrandfather, George Abram Clauff, was born 22/Dec/1833 in NJ or NY.
His marriage license says CLUFF. Whiteside Co IL census says CLOUGH. All
his married life he used CLAUFF. Family history says he changed his name; I
think he only changed the spelling. As a child he lived in a big house on
the Hudson Bay. George led freight wagon trains to the Denver CO area. He
was sailing down the Mississippi River when he met and married Eliza S.
Burch in 1855 at Whiteside Co IL. I know nothing of his young years, his
parents or his siblings. Any one out there have any clues about this mans
family?
