Hi, my CLUFF is Anna CLUFF (Annie E CLOUGH) who married Gorge HOLMAN in the
1860s. Their daughter Margaret Delia HOLMAN was born in Oriskany, NY, Oneida
County in Jan 1888. This is as far as I have reached in my search. I hope
this connects with someone but I see this list is very small. Good luck to
all,
Jim Minney F88lash(a)aol.com
Dear Karen: Welcome to "our" list.. There are three of us
now.........I am searching for FIDELIA CLOFF/CLUFF/CLOUGH---supposedly
born in 1818 in Vermont......She was (part?) Native She married RICHARD
E. LOOMIS in 1837 in either Vermont or Wisconsin....She died in
Wisconsin in 1844........She is my BRICK WALL..............Juanita
My Grandmother was a Cluff (Mary), born in Cumberland Co, IL as was her
father George. George's father was Walter P Cluff, born in Licking Co, OH.
Walter's father Chester (b 10 Nov 1797, NY) is where I am stuck. I believe
Chester's father was Jonathan Clough from Hebron, NY, but I am still looking
for proof. Also I am interested in finding other descendants of Walter P
Cluff.
Walter Cluff and Lucinda Green had 9 kids. One died at age 17 and I know
what happened to George.. but what about Wilson, Charles, William,
Elizabeth, John, and Benjamine? Gotta be some more descendants out there.
Karen

Reference to the following, it is only my assumption that Reuben Cluff is the
father of Charles C. and that I am related to the Henton's, Boone's, etc.
Fact: Charles C. Cluff was born 4 Aug1815 in KY. On the 1880 Census he
states that his father was born in MD and and his mother in KY.
There is a Reuben Cluff who married Catherine HENTON in Woodford Co., KY in
1811 and possibly died in Pike County, OH which is just south of where Charles
settled in Highland County, OH and where I grew up. Reuben's son John had a
son Charles, possibly named after Charley and possible brother to John.
- In a book entitled "Forks of Elkhorn Church" by Ermina J. Darnell, pub.
1946 I
found the following:
Thomas HENTON was the son of William and _______ HENTON of Rockingham
Co., VA. He married Christina BRENNEN and they settled in Woodford near
the
site of Grassy Spring Church, for which he gave a part of the lot. Their
children:
1) Cassius Casper m. Hannah SISK, W 1809
2) Guy
3) George H. m. Elizabeth BUCKLEY, W 1812
4) John B. m. Polly MARTIN, W 1815
5) Chris
6) Catherine m. Reuben CLUFF, W 1811 <=== Note!
7) Elizabeth
8) Persis m. James GIBBAN, W 1818

- Pike County, OH Reuben CLUFF death record, 1869 Nov 26, widower,
age 83, died Perry Twp., born VA
It all looks so obvious, but I have no proof. My hypothesis is Reuben
followed
along after his children. John CLUFF is in Pike County, Perry Twp, OH on the
1840 census; with older children fitting the age ranges; then moves to IL and
is on 1850 census with children born in OH (Catherine is not included). No
trace of Reuben, however. Maybe he was still in KY? (Our ancestor,
Charles was
in Highland County, OH on the 1840 census, but not 1830. No Reuben.)
The names of the children on John's 1850 census (Catherine, Charles...); just
co-incidental...? Then Reuben came back to OH to die, didn't like IL...?
With
it being the same county and township as John lived in, in OH. Even tho the
birth state is VA, Reuben lived so long his children got his birth place
mixed
up...? Probable! I also need to find Reuben on 1860 census; maybe living
with married daughter?
Supposedly the HENTON's came into KY with the BOONEs. Jeff Stineberg
has sent me a lot on HENTON/HINTON line. Goes all the way back to England.
I want to finish putting all the Henton/Hinton data into a database
but haven't had the time yet. I need to find more proof that convinces me
I'm truly related.
I really haven't researched any more on this family since 1995. I got
sidetracked by a multitude of lines on my Mother's side.
Thanks for asking, Juanita!
