Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Nice to hear from you Dorothy,
The following link from Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) provides a discussion
about the sample kit and has a link to view a person demonstrating how
to go about getting your DNA sample and another link to detailed written
instructions.
Rootsweb mail lists have a policy of not allowing "salesmanship" of
commercial companies or their ptoducts so I can only say here that the
public list price is discounted if you join through the established
*Cloyes* DNA Group Project - of which I am the administrator (hopefully
waiting for new members).
I'll send a private message to you with the Group discounted price.
I would guesstimate that we are related at about the 4th cousin level.
I'll be glad to answer any further questions you or anyone else has.

Bill, Could you please tell me what is entailed in having this DNA test and
what is the cost. Benjamine Franklin was my gg grandfather, then back to
James & Penelope and so on to James & Mary
Thanks for the info in advance.

Subject: [CLOYS] Cloyes DNA test results UPDATE summary 03/03/2012
As an update to my foregoing DNA post announcements, following are some new
developments :
I, a (male), and another Cloyes researcher, a (female), have used autosomal
DNA (atDNA) testing and our independently developed genealogies to find that
we connect back to James Cloyes b. 1678 and Mary Towne b. 1681. At the
current level of science we can't determine whether our connection is
through the Cloyes line or through the Towne line - but the connection back
to this couple is quite solid.
We are listed as being 7th cousins 1 X removed.
My line goes from me backward as follows : to father to grandmother to
gr-grandmother to 2nd gr-grandfather to 3rd gr-grandfather to 4th
gr-grandfather to 5th gr-grandfather James Cloyes b 1710 son of 6th
gr-grandparents James Cloyes b. 1678 and Mary Towne b. 1681. A total of
three surnames are included in my genealogy from myself back to James and
Mary Cloyes.
Her line goes from herself backward as follows : to mother to grandmother to
gr-grandmother to 2nd gr-grandmother to 3rd gr-grandfather to 4th
gr-grandmother to 5th gr-grandfather to 6th gr-grandmother Keziah Cloyes b.
1705 daughter of 7th gr-grandparents James Cloyes b. 1678 and Mary Towne b,
1681. A total of seven different surnames are included in her genealogy from
herself to James and Mary Cloyes.
As an aside, interestingly, two known male descendants of the same James
Cloyes and Mary Towne have matched quite satisfactorily using Y-DNA for male
direct line test results. One of these men is my 3rd cousin, the other is a
7th cousin to me.
With the many strong Cloyes paper trail genealogies extant it is hoped that
other folks will step up to see how their DNA matches up now that the DNA
science has advanced to this level.
Especially someone who has known descent from *ancestors* of James Cloyes b.
1678!!
