This is to announce that the Cloyes et al variant names Y-DNA Project is
fully active with a descendant of James Cloyes #4 being tested at the 67
marker level.
Henry Calvin Cloyes was the third son of James Cloyes #4 and was the
seventh of eleven total children that I aware of.
Wesley Lafayette Cloys was the second son of Henry Calvin Cloyes and the
second of six total children - all having as mother Elizabeth Boyd Key.
My Gr-Grandmother, sister of Wesley L Cloys, was Sarah Elizabeth Cloys -
the fifth born of Henry and Elizabeth's total six.
Since I am related to Henry C Cloyes through his daughter Sarah
Elizabeth I am unable to be tested for the male Cloyes Y-DNA - hence my
recruitment of a living direct line male descendant who also has Henry
C. Cloyes as an ancestor to be tested and to represent our Cloyes line.
This has been done to the extent of a completed 67 STR marker
(Haplotype) and we are currently awaiting results from a full scale SNP
(Haplogroup) test.
I have contacted several other testing labs (including Oxford Ancestors
in England) and inquired if they had any of the Cloyes or Clois surname
in their databases. The answer was no. It is my hope we will
eventually connect with the supposed French origin of this clan who are
said to be from Clois in France.
Our testing is being done at Family Tree DNA ( ftdna.com ) located in
Houston TX which has a working relationship with the University of
Arizona Genomic Research Center. This genetic testing company is not
involved with Ancestrydotcom nor with Family Treemaker Software producers.
I have established a minimal website for this DNA Project hosted by
FTDNA : the URL is ftdna, com once there type in Cloyes in the surname
search box and on the following page click on the Cloyes link listed
beneath the title "Projects" - then on the next page click on
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Cloyes-Cloyse-Cloys-Clays/
which will place you on the page where you can click and read about the

I am administrator of three Y-DNA Projects, co-administrator for another
surname project and for a Haplogroup project, and I am quite familiar
with many other projects.
I feel confident that I can answer any questions you may have and look
forward to assisting you in using this very useful tool in advancing
your paper trail genealogy research.
Please consider joining this effort and feel free to ask *any* questions
you may have.
