Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I just received a response from you stating that my email to change my address had been held because it was sent by a non-member to a members-only list. I want to change my address and I have always been a member. This is not my first attemp to change my email address so I may be off the old list but I just received an email to my old adress that will be history soon. My old address was gumbert(a)flash.net. My new address is dorothygumbert(a)austin.rr.com. Please advise as to if you can take care of this for me or what exactly I need to do.
Thanks
Dorothy Gumbert
Please change my email address to dorothygumbert(a)austin.rr.com
Thanks
Dorothy Gumbert

To all Cloyes et al descendants,
I have been interested in using "genetic genealogy" techniques in tandem
with standard paper trail documented genealogy research for the past
three years. As you are all well aware we eventually run into a lack of
documentation for continuing our specific Cloyes family line backward
into time.
The great advantage of using DNA test results is that it can help to
link us back in time to our ancestors and when applied correctly can
point to a specific family line for further investigation when there is
a question as to where to look next.
DNA testing, however, of itself, without being linked to good
genealogical documentation is not usually very productive.
Inasmuch as there has been a significant amount of "accepted" research
of the Cloyes line back to the mid-1500s I feel there could be a
significant amount of benefit to be gained if enough DNA testing could
be achieved.
My great-grandmother was Sarah Elizabeth Cloyse dau of Henry Calvin
Cloyse b. 1823 and Elizabeth Boyd Key b. 1821, NC.
Through the use of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) by testing my female 1st
cousin we have the mitochondrial DNA pattern established for our direct
line of women ancestors back to 1821.
Now I would like to begin working on the male Cloyes ancestry and am
curious if there are other Cloyes researchers who would be interested in
joining in?
I am currently involved with the administration of three DNA projects.
In 2004 I began the Harvey surname project and next joined the
Asbill/Asbell project as co-administrator. I am currently also a
co-administrator for the E3b Haplogroup Project.
So --- with the above as background and with with all the fine research
that has been done on the Cloyes family line in the past I would like to
propose that a Cloyes surname project be started with the intent of
aiding and strengthening the standard paper trails already in existence
to hopefully show the way past a few "brick walls".
For additional information about the program, procedures, and the DNA
testing company please click on the following URL for much more
information :
http://www.familytreedna.com/
This is the Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) ompany's main web page with a
plethora of information to be reviewed by reading the many topics with
clickable links.
Once there enter HARVEY in the surname search box and you will be taken
to a search results page - then click on the HARVEY link located in the
lower left portion of the text which takes you to the HARVEY project
page where you can click on the highlighted website link at the top of
the page to view the Y-DNA test results of our members in tabular
format. This is how our CLOYES Y-DNA test information would be
discussed and displayed.
The concept of Y-DNA research is that of tracing chromosomes having
certain allele markers which have proven to be stable enough over
hundreds of years to identify ancestral lineage quite conclusively when
related members of a given descendancy are compared.
If enough Cloyes researchers/descendants are interested in using this
exciting new Genetic Genealogy concept to advance and further our
standard paper documented genealogy efforts I will be pleased to work
with all involved in setting the Cloyes surname project in motion.
Please understand - this is purely a voluntary effort on my part - there
is no compensation or benefit to me as an administrator other than the
satisfaction of giving back to all of the Cloyes family of researchers
who assembled the information years ago and who helped me identify my
specific Cloyse line as it linked to the main family root.
I am of course ready to answer any questions you may have - I would
suggest keeping the conversation mainly on the mail-list in order for
all to see and learn as issues are brought forth.
William L (Bill) Harvey
Helen,
I was notified about the list management change also - I think it dealt
more with the software package being changed for all Rootsweb mail-lists
than for the list-admin.
My previous message stated that I had tried to contact the Cloyes
list-admin. This used to be Tom Cloyes and I am trying to get in touch
with him or his successor list-admin for a question about DNA testing
for Cloyes folks.
Thanks for your help.

I sent a message to the Cloyes list-admin a couple of days ago but have
not received an answer.
So I will try this to see if we're still able to communicate?
