Judy, I would really appreciate any help. I have a deed of Jesse Guy Cloyse
for Lot 53 in the New Cemetery , Obion Co., TN.
The main information in Francis Marion notes is--James Cloys ran away from
home in Mass. at the age of 17. He went to sea and carried on slave trade.
On his last trip, pirates robbed him and took his 30 Negroes and killed all
his crew but him and one other man. He went to Christian Co., Kentucky, and
at the approximate age of 25, married a Miss Nichols. From Christian Co.,
KY, he moved to Henry Co., TN where he died about 1850.
The other notes are names and dates. I am still checking them out. I believe
they are about what I have found.
The bible pages list births, deaths and marriages beginning with Marcus
Calhoun Cloys. I have copies if you are interested.. The bible is Hugh and
fragile so my husband helped me hold it and make copies of the fact pages.
I also have picture of Jesse Guy and some others.
Helen

Helen, you raise some very interesting questions. My husband's line is from
FRANCIS MARION Cloys to MILLARD FILLMORE Cloys to GEORGE CLARENCE Cloys, Sr.
to
FRANCES GALE Cloys (my mother-in-law and "name-sake" of Francis Marion.)
We have a portrait of Francis Marion and my mother-in-law spoke of visiting
him when he was bed-ridden before he died...propped up on many pillows -
imposing white beard!
She was about 9 or 10 years old at the time, so doesn't have genealogical
details.
I have copies of some of the books of Marriage Records from Obion Co., Tn
compiled by the DAR chapter there. And 2 volumes of the Obion Co. history. I
will see what I can find.,
It must be fascinating to have the Bible and notes from Marion Lee Cloys.
I would be happy to share any information I have. Feel free to email me
directly.
