Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Web page finally nearly finished and up. There should be something here to interest you. Go to:

Let me know please if you find errors or missing links - I have tried my best to edit, but I am sure there are things I have missed! There are 514 pages.
Judy,
While I agree that the fee increase is a pain in the neck, and should be
fought at every turn, since the government has become altogether greedy and
much too large for its own good ( 90% of what the government does is un
Constitutional), this maillist exists for the sole purpose of disseminating
information regarding the Cloyes family line and not for political
purposes. The post in question was a call to action, while timely and
necessary, is not within the strictures of the list. If the message read
something to the effect that Socialist Security had increased their fees
and left it at that the thread would have been allowed. Political action
against those who are milking us dry is as necessary as rain, but does not
belong on a genealogical maillist. There are more appropriate maillists for
that purpose.

Tom, In this instance I disagree with your decision. Many of us are still
searching for primary documentation and SS records are helpful. The extreme
fee increase IS problematic. All that was asked in the message was for
support to rollback or decrease the fee increase. At least that part got
thru. Thanks, BigSarge.

I hate to say it but this is off topic for this maillist and the thread
will be dropped.
'nuff said.
Tom
Hi everyone -
Talking about Social Security - someone wrote her congress man - he in turn
wrote
Social Security - the letter they wrote him is pure "gobbly-goop". Her
Congressman sent her a copy of the letter he had received.
In the letter her Congressman wrote to her, he said for her to call his aide -
which she did - They said they would take it up in Congress. [we will see]
IF every one of you would write 'snail mail' to your Congressman /
Representive and complain about it - it just may do some good.
She spoke to a woman at Social Security and asked her what was the reason
going from $7.00 to $27.00 this is her reply to me. "There are so many
workers at the age of retirement - and they are NOT going to be replaced -
leaving a few to do all of the work. By raising the rates so high, they
are discouraging us from asking for the records." She would not give her
name - understandable -
The Congressman agreed that the cost from $7.00 to $27.00 sounds
unreasonable.
So, please write your Congressman / Representive - and by the way they don't
pay any attention to e-mails because there is no signature on them, no proof
it came from you - any one can send an e mail with any name on it -
BUT with a snail mail letter they figure that represents 50 voters - AND
Snail mail letters they do pay attention to - e-mail letters they don't.
So please write your Congressman and your Representive - pass this on to the
other lists you belong to, if you want.
We have changed things before, and we can do it again, if we all work
together. Those original applications have helped me a great deal, telling
me parents names I didn't know - and where they worked. By raising the rates
like this, Social Security is hindering our efforts to find our families.
'nough said -
I don't know if they are related, or if it's a really bad spelling, but
this (Clayes) family is a misspelling of the Cloyes family name and I'm
forwarding it to the Cloyes list to see if anyone there may have something.
If so would you reply to Anne at; AWNRDC(a)aol.com .
Thanks,
Tom

Greetings Tom, Steve, Grant, Hugh and Everyone,
I've been folowing the conversations on this Cloyes list with interest,
although I haven't contributed anything to it yet. Although I have to go back
8 generations to my most recent Cloyes ancester I still feel connected.
Grant, I like the idea of the "Cloyes Cronicles" and will be happy to be on
the mailing list. More power to you!
Wouldn't it be helpful if all on the list wrote out our Cloyes lineage so we
can see to whom we may be related and possibly share information? Steve
recently posted his lineage and mentioned Peter Cloyes. I wondered if he
could be my Peter Cloyes. When I see names I have in my family file my ears
always perk up.
Anyway, here's my line:
I am Esther Cramblet Snively 1927 Plattsburgh, New York

9GFather: Peter Cloyes b abt 1590 Colchester, Essex, Eng.
10 GFather: Peter Cloyes 1539 m Ellen Hollandnt
Does anyone know the story about John and Thomas Cloyes who both were killed
by Indians ?
Let's get this list active again and share our lineages.

I rcvd. the packet from the Mass. historical office regarding the process of
nomination of the Cloyes house for the National Register. It seems the house has
been through the nomination process two or three times before.(1967, 1970's and
1980's). I am trying to get in contact with the person at the office to see what
happened in the previous nominations. I have more pictures of the house. If
anyone has a website to put them on let me know and I'll forward them to you. Also
a new discovery of a plaque on the house(once ivy was cleared), put there by the
Framingham Historical Society that the Commissioner didn't know was there. I am
going to stay in constant contact with someone in Framingham to see why the house
has fallen through the cracks and make sure that the right hand knows what the left
is doing. I also talked to the former owner and she was uncooperative. She didn't
want to "let the world know what she was doing" If anyone has a good contact in
the area lets get a hold of them. I'll let you know what is happening.

Grant,
That sounds like a great idea, and I wish you great success. This maillist
was started to do what you envision of keeping in contact with the Cloyes
Clan, and gets really quiet at times, such as recently.
Any further word on the house in Framingham?
