I have nothing beyond this marriage, and nothing on James himself or his
family.
Anybody?

Kay,
Glad to meet you, and would like to welcome you to the Cloyes family
maillist. I am cc'ing this to the list so that everyone will be able to get
in on this and maybe we can all have some fun with it. As I wrote you in
reply to your earlier email we are 6th cousins once removed, and my file is
lacking on your immediate family. In fact, I have more information
regarding your father's family and his parents than I do on his wife and
children. It would help if you would break up what you wrote and kinda
linked it together. Not at all sure who goes with whom.
My branch of the Cloyes family went the north route via New York, and then
into Ohio where I live today.
You seem to be doing fine on the computer, and will only get better as you go.
So everyone else, let's welcome Kay, and feel free to jump in here and say
"hi" or whatever else might trigger your fancy. I'm sure we could have a go
at this and maybe fill out our files a little more.

Thanks, Tom, for that information you provided Ed about my 8th G Grandfather,
John Cloyes. I had him married to Abigail Sparwell but am glad to get this
about Abigail Mournings being his first wife.
John Cloyes and his second wife, Jane, were parents of my 7th G Grandfather,
Thomas Cloyes b abt 1648, who married to Susannah Lewis.
What information do you have about both father and son being killed by
Indians? Thomas died in 1690 in Cumberland County, ME, and his father John
died in 14 years earlier in 1676, also in Cumberland, ME.
Glad to see some activity on this Cloyes list again.

Hi Ed,
Welcome to the list, and yes it stays dormant for a long time until someone
wakes us all up with a question. I think everyone has forgotten about it!

He was born in 1604, died August, 1676 by indians; source, The Cloyes
Family genealogy.

Abigail's last name was Mournings; source, IGI

They had several children; John, Peter, Nathaniel, Abigail, Sarah, Hannah,
and Thomas. No mention of Jane or Julien. source, The Cloyes Family genealogy.
> son of Peter Clayes of Colchester England).
Most sources list the spelling as Cloyse, but he did come from Colchester.
His wife's name was Elizabeth _________. They had 3 children that we've
been able to find out about; Elizabeth, John, and Peter. source. IGI
>Does this agree with any info you may have? It appears that the spelling

The original spelling was Cloyes, but through limited education the
spelling varied from Cloyes, Cloyse, Cloyce, Cloice, Clayes, Clayse, Cloys,
etc. There are probably some that I've missed, and some I've probably
misspelled. The name originated in Cloyes sur le Loir, France, the
birthplace of the Children's Crusade founded by Stephen of Cloyes in 1212AD.

I just checked through my database, and the only Brown that comes close is
James Brown who married Mary Cloyes, b. November 15, 1696, m. December 7,
1727, daughter of Peter Cloyes/Mary Preston. Is this the one you are
looking for?

Tom
