Was checking the IGI yesterday, and found some stuff in the London fiche
regarding the Cloyes family. Does anybody have a clue on these people?
Cloys, Alice c. may 31, 1663, dau. of Peter Cloys/Frances (London,
Saint Katherine By The Tower).
Cloyce, Anthony m. Apr 27, 1593 Joane Conway (London, Saint Giles
Cripplegate).
Clois, Catherine c. Sep 26, 1714, dau. of Dingman Clois/Elizabeth
(Clerkenwell, Saint James).
Cloyse, Charles c. Oct 9, 1603 son of Charles Cloyse/ (London, St.
Botolph without Aldgate).
Cloyce, Ellen m. Mar 8, 1643 Daniel Lace (Stepney, Saint Dunstan).
Cloyse, Eme. c. Mar 7, 1595, dau. of Anthony Cloyse/ (London St.
Giles Cripplegate).
Cloyse, Hannah c. Jul 11, 1602 dau. of Daniel Cloise/ (London, St.
Vedast Foster Lane and St. Michael Le Querne).
Cloyse, Jonathan c. Apr 26, 1597 son of Anthony Cloyse/ (London, St.
Giles Cripplegate).
Cloyce, Luce_ c. Dec 4, 1601 dau. of Charles Cloyce/ (London, St.
Botolph without Aldgate).
Cloyse, Mary c. Apr 21, 1594 dau. of Anthony Cloyse/ (London, St.
Giles Cripplegate).
Cloyse, Rebecca c. Aug 20, 1598 dau. of Anthony Cloyse/ (London St.
Giles Cripplegate).
Cloyce, Rebecca c. Jan 1, 1603 dau. of Anthony Cloyce/ (London St.
Giles Cripplegate).
Cloyse, Saith c. Aug 22, 1600 son of Anthony Cloyse/ (London, St.
Giles Cripplegate).
Cloyce, Sarah c. Dec 6, 1789 dau. of Christopher Cloyce/Sarah
(Finsbury, Saint Luke Old Street).
My database doesn't show a thing on any of these, and they don't show up on
the Essex fiche either. Should probably check the other county's in England
for traces, but I'll save that for another day. Also checked the France
fiche, but nothing there at all.
Another head-scratcher,
Tom
To those on Cloyes list:
I'm forwarding this to you about the question of Mehitable who may have
bee a daughter of Thomas & Susannah Cloyes. It is reported that Joseph
Moffatt b. 1703 who m. Mary Waters b. 1711 was a son of Wm. & Mehitable
Moffatt and she was a Cloyes. Any comments? Feel free to write Richard
Jacobs directly.

Subject: RE: Moffatts & Cloyes
Hi Bill:
You mentioned Eva. I believe that I have copy of her original
manuscript which I found in the Grand Rapids, MI public library. I
have done a lot or research there, but I am 200 miles away, over here
in the Chicago area. Anyhow, in her manuscript Mehitable's last name
was penciled in as Learns or Larens or something like that. I do not
know who did the writing, but there it was as plain as the nose on my
face. I recently saw where someone states her maiden name is Moffatt
(or one of those endings). I will be going to the FHC next Tuesday
night 12-2-97. I will try and see if I can find some more info in the
IGI, Ancesral File, etc. We also have a bunch of CD Roms I will try
and check those and see if I can find something.
I believe that we need to go back to the Probate records of Main and
NE MA and see if we can find Mehitable Muffit as an heir in her
father's will. I would like to get back to Salt Lake and go through
their books. I was there several weeks ago, and finally located where
the NE books were located. It is unbelievable what they have there.
The research process through the Family History Centers is too slow.
Your are right, there appear to be three or more families that were
in the Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, etc areas. Maybe there were
dozens of them, but I think not. I guess that you are aware that
Joseph Muffit the son ? of William married a Mary Moff** in Concord
about 1736. Whether it is our Joseph is unknown at this moment
especially since he was still married to Mary Waters and they had a
child about that time.....
What is the Web Page for the Cloyes?
Yep, I'd have to say that just about sums it all up!
