I do not believe this is the same Newitt Cloyd. From other postings, there was apparently one from Alabama and one who moved to Iowa. I would be glad to send you the Iowa Newitt Cloyd story, but am currently wintering in Texas. If you still want it, let me know, and I will send it to you when I return in April.

I have some info. (don't know if it is correct) that someone sent me. This is the Newitt Cloyd that was married to Mason Binford not the Alabama Newitt. I can send you what I have when I round it up.

I hope that you all receive this but in the Will of James Cloyd, a Solomon Laurence was listed as a witness. While searching through Ancestry, I discovered that James Cloyd was listed in a Will for James Lawrence (d: between Aug 1801 and 1802) also in Kentucky. James Lawrence mentioned that James Cloyd was his son-in-law and there was also a Solomon Lawrence listed as James Lawrence's son. From this, I discovered that James William Cloyd married Janette Lawrence (daughter of James Lawrence) on 20 Nov 1764. Janette was born in 1744 in Augusta, VA and died prior to 1800. I was able to track a James Cloyd and the Lawrence family back to Botetourt County, VA.
On 9 Apr 1800, James Cloyd remarried to a Faithful (Hall) Graham (listed as Grimes) in Garrard County, KY. Faithful was the widow of Benjamin Graham. This is how James is connected to my line.
Benjamin Graham's nephew (Thomas, who is my 5th great grandfather) married a Jane (aka Jenny) Cloyd. From my research, all that is known about Jane is that she was possible born in Pennsylvania and that she died around 1837 or 1839 (I can't remember the exact date) in Indiana. The date and location of Thomas Graham and Jane Cloyd's marriage is currently unknown.
Because Benjamin's widow and his nephew both married Cloyds, it is a strong possibility that Jane and James Cloyd are somehow related. Currently, I have no proof of any such relation but I am eagerly searching.
There are several mentions of James Cloyd, a Thomas Cloyd, a John Graham (Benjamin's brother is Lt. John Graham), and several Lawrences are mentioned in some court cases from Botetourt County, VA against some Mann family members and Arbuckles (James Lawrence's daughter Elizabeth married a Thomas Arbuckle). I have not found any transcriptions of the court cases...yet but this seems to be a good lead. However, as far as I can tell, my Graham line comes from Rowan County, NC (it's pretty well documented that Lt. John Graham was born in North Carolina and lived in Rowan County for a number of years before moving near Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Kentucky around 1780 and remained there until his death) so I'm not sure if the Grahams mentioned in the Botetourt County, VA records really relate to my Grahams.
Any info that you might have that may help me untangle this info would be greatly appreciated! :D

YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Third Baptist Church for Mrs. Vivian C. Lee, 103, who departed this life Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at her residence.
Mrs. Lee was born Aug. 3, 1908, in Charlotte, N.C., a daughter of William James Cloyd and Mattie Lively Cloyd. Her parents moved to Youngstown, Ohio when Vivian was a small child.
After the untimely death of her first husband, Mack Curry, in Detroit, Vivian returned to Youngstown, where she married on Aug. 19, 1939, to the late Nathaniel C. Lee Sr., a noted civil rights leader. Together they reared Nathaniel's son, Nathaniel C. Lee Jr.
Vivian was a talented musician with a gift for teaching music and directing choirs. Over the years, she taught hundreds of students throughout the Youngstown area to play and appreciate music, before retiring from the vocation 40 years ago. She also accompanied the notable Dunbar Choral Club, of which her late husband, Nathaniel, was the founder and director.
Vivian's Youngstown church affiliation began with the Elizabeth Baptist Church until 1943, when she, with her husband, moved to Prospect Street and joined the Third Baptist Church. Until her death, she was their oldest member. She faithfully served as a choir member and choir director until the age of 95, as well as part-time organist, the Angie Johnson Missionary Circle and the Women's Work Committee.
She leaves her son, Nathaniel and daughter-in-law, Barbara Lee of Ontario, Canada; four granddaughters, Mary Lynn (Paul) Byrd of Texas, Vivianne Potter of New Jersey, her caregiver, Cynthia Lee of Youngstown, and Sylvia (Jerry) Cramer of Louisiana; four step grandchildren, Brent (Karen) Key, Linda (Bryan) Scott and Susan Key, all of Ontario, and Malcolm Key of British Columbia; eight great-grandchildren, Natalie, Camille, Anthony, Ryan, Cate, Hailey, Patricia and Heather; nephews, John (Loretta) Lee, George Freeman of Ohio, Oscar Crawford of Illinois, and Sylvester Crawford of Georgia; nieces, Rhoda Lee, Helen Jackson, Sylvia Harris of Ohio, Eula Oates of Ohio, Beatrice Huff and Genevieve Seymor, both of Kentucky, and Darlene Johnson of Georgia; as well as a large extended family.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home Inc. and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church
