Mary, I was in touch with a Marte Hoagland Dyess in 2001 who is a descendant of David Cloyd. Quote: I am descended of James Cloyd of Ireland, whose birthdate was 1680. He came to New Castle Co, PA in 1730. He died in 12769 in Chester Co, PA. This Scotchman said to have been at the Siege of Londerry when he was 9 yr. old. It is said he would often lecture the young folks, his grandchildren, on wastefulness & tell them of the privations endured by the besieged in 1689. came to America with him ashis 2 sons, James, Jr. (1707-1803) & David Cloyd (1710-1764). David Cloyd (my lineg=age) & Margaret Campbell's children were James, David, Jrl., Michael, John, Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary, Joseph. Margaret was killed by Indians. David died in Botetourt Co, VA.
I can give you Mrs.Dyess's e-mail from 2001, if this fits into your lineage.
My James Cloyd left a will in Lincoln Co, Ky, in 1804 naming his sisters & their children. One was a Margaret & one Polly (Mary?) I have not been able to connect him to any other Cloyds. Could he be David's brother, or the son of David & Margaret? His sister Margaret married my ancestor John Nash. They moved from Ky into TN.

Tina; I sent a message which may not have gone thru, thus I sent a test to
get the addy right. The two Cloyd I seek are the proven parents of
Nadonia/Naomi and Hugh, said a brother and sister both married LEE brother
and sister.
Nadonia's family I have fairly complete. She married James LEE s/o Richard
and Elizabeth ???? LEE of Madison county Ky. Her said brother Hugh married
Margaret?Peggy LEE and for them I have only very scant records. Hugh is
said d.ca. 1836/9 and buried at Kincaid cemetery assumed Madison co. Ky. And
said had five children.
Nothing prime on any of these beyond the heir list in the Madison County Ky.
Court records. And the marriage records as listed in several sources. Bud in
Mo.
CLARENCE; Above was intended message. Do you also chase the Kentucky line?
"Bayse, Cloyd, and Tapp" has been my source.

Mary,
I don't know about your James CLOYD,b 1680, Ireland but my side comes from: William CLOYD, b. 1751 in Ballymony Antrim, Duchy Ulster, Ireland, he landed in Philadelphia about 1774/1775. He married Jeanette BARR daughter of James BARR and Mary CALDWELL.
William CLOYD was in the Revolutionary War, while in residence of Chester Co., PA. he enlisted and served with the PA. troops 1776-1777. While a resident of Mifflin County, PA. he enlisted and served in the fall 1777-1779.
He allowed his pension 10 Sept. 1832 at which he was 80 yrs. old and living in Washington Co., TN. He died 6 April 1837.
There is a James CLOYD, b. 1-9-1782 probably in VA., youngest son of James & Jean CLOYD,from VA. they moved to Indiana, then to Kentucky, later to Pike Co., MO. then to Decater, IL.
Since my William landed in PA. & ended up in TN. & the above James went from VA. & ended up in IL. I think these CLOYD's could have been anywhere.
I have some info on my William CLOYD (I don't know who sent it to me yrs. ago)that was copied and it has a contents sheet, it starts with "Section 1 - Descendants of James CLOYD,(1680-1769) of Chester Co., PA.... Section 2 - Descendants of David CLOYD (1700-1792)of Augusta Co., VA...Section 3-Descendants of John CLOYD (died 1759)in Augusta Co., VA...... Section 4 - Descendants of William CLOYD, 1751-1837) of Washington Co., TN....from there it goes on to a total of 8,. #5 Daniel CLYDE,CLOYD, in New Hamp., #6 Edmond BASYE, in Fauquier Co., VA... #7 Elizabeth TAPP in Spottaylvania Co., VA..... #8 and brief sketches of Ingels, Jones, Marshall and Smith families.
You may contact me direct at ...gntcrane(a)sbcglobal.net
I hope this helps you,

Hi There,
I might be able to help. Do you have any idea (even a guess) as to the birth/death locations and dates of your grandfather, Robert Francis Cloyd? If you can give me approximate information on those things, I can try to link him to older generations of Cloyds who have lots of published information I can point you towards.
Sincerely,
Mary E. Packard

Do we have any solid evidence of the existence of the "immigrant ancestor" James Cloyd b. 1680 Ireland (other than A.D. Cloyd's "Genealogy of the Cloyd" book)?
I am starting to wonder if those Chester County, PA records all refer to the other James Cloyd who was born in 1707. I can't find anything to prove the existence of James Cloyd b. 1680.
I am a descendant of David Cloyd b. 1710, m. Margaret Campbell. David is supposed to be the son of James (b. 1680).
If anyone else has opinions or insights, please let me know.
:) Mary
