For all those of you who know me Betty Smith Meischen author of Trails
West and From Jamestown to Texas. Just want you to know.
Sorrowfully our beautiful, sweet daughter in law Monique Hutzler
Meischen passed away on Ash Wednesday, February 25, 2004.
Monique was born June 5, 1969 and married our son Jeffrey March 9, 1996
in San Marcos. They had made their home at 2500 Rolling Oaks there
since their marriage.
Monique was on the faculty of Southwest Texas University (now Texas
State University) for eleven years. She was a real take charge person
and was well-liked by all who new her. Being in the athletic
department, she frequently went with the different teams to out of state
events. SWT was very dependent upon her ability to organize and to get
it done.
Monique died Tuesday night as the result of multiple brain tumors and
what was found on the body CAT scan a large tumor in her pelvic area and
cancer in one entire lung. The sad thing is she kept her illness from
the family so well that no one really noticed until she began to lose so
much weight and finally complained of the headaches last weekend. Her
mother Nancy and I held her hand on each side as they turned off the
life support machine following last rites at approximately 3:00 AM
Wednesday. This so far in my life was the hardest thing I have had to
do. Her father, brother John Wesley, Del and of course Jeff were there
to say good bye.
Her funeral is being held by Pennington Funeral Home of San Marcos.
There will be an open Memorial Service at SWT (TEXAS STATE) university
Bobcat Stadium in the new VIP center on the second floor at the south
end of the field at 1:00 PM Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to make a donation to Texas
State University or the charity of your choice.
