I need help on Virginia history! I have seen some good maps somewhere
on the web of the progress of counties in Colonial Virginia,
specifically in the Jamestown area. I am trying to locate a good many
families on a variety of creeks and rivers in the 1600's & 1700's. Most
land grants and deeds referenced the nearest body of water, whether it
was a creek, swamp or river. I am having difficulty placing them
because the counties changed so often in those early years. I am doing
a study on these early families, who they were and who their neighbors
were that will be included in my next book From Jamestown to Texas II:
Virginia, the Cradle of America. I hope that I can have it out in the
next couple of months. If you have information on any of the
relationships of these colonial families especially those that date to
the early 1600's, I would love to hear. The story that is developing of
colonial America and the westward movement is quite fascinating.

I don't have a Thomas Wright or a Boatman. So many of the entries on the photocopies that I have are illegible. It appears from what I can read that one Wright female married a Cloyd because of the names listed in my earlier posting. If you would like a copy of my attempt to transcribe the entries, email me off the board with your mailing address and I'll send it to you.

I am interested in the Cloyd/Wright connection. My gr gr grandmother, Mary Boatman was married to Thomas Wright before she married my gr gr grandfather, John Cloyd in 1841. Do you know how the Cloyds and Wrights listed in the Bible are related?

I have very poor photocopies of a missing Wright family bible that has entries for Eva Cloyd (b. 1883) and Edna Cloyd (b. 1889?) and Elizabeth Mary Cloyd (b. 1869). The other family name is Dean. Is there a Dean or a Cloyd descendent out there who has this bible? Most of the Wrights that are entered in it lived in Indiana...
