This is my Clow line. My understanding is that the homestead was William's and remains in the family today. I have visited it - though in 1990 - and it was in the family then.

The Clows came from scotland in the mid 1700's and some went to Canada and some stayed in the states. I have information in a family tree on this site under Foote_Clow I am having problems getting all the names and i am starting to get birth and death certificates but years ago in scotland it was hard to track these records.

We probably are since I was told Williams father William was from Scotland. The Clows I was told came to the states in the mid 1700's and when the American Revolution broke some went to Nova Scotia and other stayed and fought in the war. That might help some.

The Morman church is how I found william and Charlotte. Williams father was also William. There were a number of them in Murray Harbour. This site might be interesting information. There is also a Clow reunion in Canada.

Yes and there were repeat William Clows. The William clow that is referenced died on a ship called the Lydia outside of Murray Harbour PEI Canada. His father was also William Clow. The Clows came to the states from Scotland in the mid 1700's and when the American Revolution broke some went to Nova Scotia and other stayed in the states.

Lorna Baxter--So sorry. I read through the rest of the chapter and your Henry isn't mentioned again as far as I can tell.
On the other hand, Edgar Clow sent me a photocopy of typed transcriptions "from microfilm of Dunblane Parish records" on which 8 Clows baptisms are listed. Some of them are for other Clow families than the one covered in "A Cleft in the Rock". One of these is "Peter, b. 1761 - Son to Henry Clow in Kinbuck, born the 11th and baptised 24th July 1761." Under that someone has handwritten a question, "Was it he (Henry) who went to Skye?".
That may give you a few more clues. It suggests another family of Clows you could look into. Hope that helps.

Would you be kind enough to check your copy of this book on my behalf?
According to a GoogleBooks search, it states (on page 12) "He recited the story of how in the late 1700s one Henry Clow, a Millwright from Dunblane, was brought to the island of Skye to construct mills there...".
This info fits the family of my Jane Clow (b c 1807 Kilmuir, Skye). Her father was Henry Clow, Millwright and it her brother, James, followed in his father's footsteps. Her elder siblings were born Dunblane while she and James were born Skye.
Is there any further information on this recited story that might prove useful.
Many thanks and best wishes

I have Edgar Clow's "A Cleft in the Rock". I made a quick search, but couldn't find Lovina Clow. If you still need this info, please let me know--I'd be happy to search further.

Hello. If you have anything on the William Clow & Sophia Strader line, particularly in Scotland before they emigrated, I would be very grateful if you would send it. I was in Scotland last year and visited Dunblane, but didn't really know what I should look into. I already have a bit about William's line in Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada.

I am a descendant of William Clow & Sophia Strader who settled in Leeds Co., Ontario after the America Revolution, because William was a United Empire Loyalist. Is this your Clow line? I am very curious about the homestead on the St. Lawrence that you mention. I was wondering if this was William's or one of his descendants? I hope you will contact me via this forum. Best regards.
