THAL & EFFIE CLOW
Thal Clow's father, George Clow, a butcher by trade, was living in Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island in the mid 1800's and he'd already had one family, including sons Bill and Ham, when Charlotte Vickerson came along and he made her his second wife. before leaving the island for better things on the frontier, she bore him three children: Kate, Thalbert and Ambrose Olenda, whom they called "Len".
Thal Clow emigrated from Charlottetown, Prine Edward Island with his parents when he was four years old. They settled south of Humboldt first, but later moved to Orleans to the area now known as Clow Township, named thus in their honor. A little later they moved a short distance to the east to the Griffen place (now the home of Johnny Clow) because it had a larger house. During this time, George and his wife had eight more children: Bertha, Tillie, Cleve, Wilbur (Pat), Esther, Ethel, Nellie and Bessie. Nellie was raised by her Uncle Am, a brother of George Clow. She was later killed when she fell off a hay rack.
Thal Clow got his education in what was called the North Ridge School. He met and married a neighbor girl, Effie McIllraith in 1905. They were married 60 years and had nine children:
Raymond Levi
Alden Lloyd
Harold William
Hazel Ella
Violet Margaret
LaVerne Howard
Laurinne Myrtle
Edith Eleanor
Doris Ann
All of the children were born at home except Edith and Doris who were born in the Hallock area. Thal Clow passed away in 1966.
