I have better information now. Leith Peter Clow was born in PEI Canada ~1890 and died there in 1967 at 77 years old . His parents were William Clow and Charlotte Reid. I am not sure if they went to Canada from the States, Scotland, or were located there when they were born. Leith Clow married Marie Louise Stanley in 1919 in England and they moved to Canada where Leith was from. If anyone has any information that will help please contact me.

Had some time this morning so I ran the CLOW name on the St. Lawrence Co., NY, Jefferson Co., NY and Lewis Co., NY Genweb sites. They all abut one another and all have connections to Canada. On the St. Lawrence Co., NY website where my Joseph WEBB lived 3 queries with the CLOW name. All from an Allen TRICKEY citing Lovina CLOW b. 1814/15 in Ontario CAN. m. Hiram H. TRICKEY and their family. The other 3 queries appeared on the Jefferson Co., NY website where I was born: From obit of Leonard C. Petrie 82 d. Jan 1973 his second wife was Bessie CLOW who predeceased him. Another obit that of Lena B. Oliver dtd 1987 who also was b. Bob's Lake, Ontario, Canada had a daughter Mrs. Arthur (Janet) CLOW of Marienville, PA. No CLOWS in the Lewis Co. Genweb site. Something to chew on. Linda

I don't know if you live in the area or not; if not, are there any other names that you'd like me to search for in the Buchanan/Fayette Co. records?

As to naming patterns: Joseph Webb had a sister Sarah Webb Rice (my GGGmother), a sister Margaret Webb Marihugh, a sister Altha Webb Cole, a brother William and I assume Joseph Jr. named for his father but no Juliann or Amos. So their children's names could come from either side. According to Dale who sent me the census data Susan /Susannah CLOW WEBB d. 1871 at age 39 I believe followed by Joseph in 1876 at age 45 so both died young and the children must have been farmed out the boys anyway. Margaret was probably married as was Maria and Juliann. Those Webb girls living with this Juliann and Henry Van Syckler may have been illegitimate, it happend. There is also in the hhd an Isaac WOODWORTH listed as Henry's brother-in-law age 75 b. NY. I hope you can find something on these children it would be nice to have. Linda

Thank you so much for the censuses. Sarah M, aka Maria is probably named after Susannah's sister Maria and her other sister, Sarah Ellen (aka Ella). William is the name of Susannah's brother. Margaret could be the namesake of Maria's (Susannah's sister Maria Clow Burco) daughter, Marguerite Burco; and Joseph could be the namesake for his cousin, Joseph Burco. Julianna is the name of Susannah's mother, and again has a cousin, Julia Anne Burco.
"I found a Julia B. VAN SYCKLER 1880 census of Byron, Buchanan Co., IA w/o Henry VAN SYCKLER with 2 WEBB step daughters in hhd., Irene WEBB 10 b. IA and Mary WEBB age 7 b. IA. I believe this may be Juliann WEBB."
Could be, but this would make her children illegitimate since Webb was her maiden name. I can try and do some hunting at the courthouse now that I have names.

I have a lot of info on Abraham, if you are still interested. Also, Malachi did not immigrate from the Netherlands, as the Clows have been here before the Revolutionary War; Malachi's ancestor, Cheney Clough was hanged for his actions during the war, as he was a Torey.

Yes, this is a connection, I just wish I had more info for you. In fact, would you mind sending me the 1870 census info? I wasn't sure that Susannah had moved with the family. Susannah's brother, Abraham, was born in 1827, and all I have is that she was born before this date. I am descended from Susannah's sister, Maria. I have plenty of info on Susannah's parents and sibs, but I'm afraid little on her. Only that she married Joseph Webb April 28 1850 in Defiance, OH. In 1850 her parents are in the Adams twp, Defiance OH census, and in 1856 the Jefferson, Fayette, IA census. (Fayette and Buchanan are adjoining counties, I still live in the area). I could try to dig around here some more. Keep in touch.

I am very excited reading this reference to both Defiance Co., Ohio and Buchanan Co. IA referencing a Clow family. Just last week I had a breakthrough in my search for my GGGmother's brother Joseph WEBB in Independence IA (Buchanan Co.) A very kind genteman on the Buchanan Co. IA Genweb site emailed me census data from that county for the 1870 census listing Joseph WEBB age 42 b. Ireland Susan 37 b. Ohio and their children and citing their enumeration in the 1860 census of Adam Twp Defiance Co., Ohio. Just this morning another gentleman emailed me with data from Defiance Co., Ohio citing a marriage in 1850 between Joseph WEBB and Susannah CLOW. I wondered why this couple would move on to IA, now it makes sense. They apparently were moving with her family. Joseph Webb was cited as living in Independence IA in his father's will dtd 1870 in St. Lawrence Co., NY. The Jonathan Webb family (Joseph's father) emigrated from Ireland in 1828 settling in upstate NY. Is there a connect!
ion here?

This morning I got an email message citing a marriage in Defiance Co., Ohio between Joseph WEBB and Susannah CLOW on 28 April 1850. This couple was enumerated in the 1860 census of Adam Twp Defiance Co., Ohio but by 1870 they had moved on to Buchanan Co., IA I wondered why they went to IA, perhaps a connection to this William Clow. Susan/ Susannah Clow Webb died at age 39 in Buchanan Co, IA. Is this a connection?
