I am one of those people who can't stand to see family photographs, albums and other personal items end up in dusty bins at flea markets and antique shops. I try to rescue some of the identified ones and return them to living family members.
Last weekend I found an old photograph taken in the late 1800s (?) of beautiful young "BERTHA E. CLOW - Age 17 yrs." It was taken by DuWall Photo Co. in Colfax, Washington. No other information on the back.
The photo was found in Hendersonville, NC. This little town in the North Carolina mountains has a large retirement population. It's entirely possible that Bertha married, and later retired, moved to and died in Hendersonville. Sadly, when someone dies here, there is no immediate family around to claim their possessions, so they end up being sold to the antique stores.
If anyone out there is a descendant of Bertha, drop me an e-mail and I will send you the photo ... no charge.
