I am trying to establish who in our Scottish Clow family migrated to Canada. Recently I read of a visit in June-July 1902 to Canada of Scottish Clows to visit relations there.
I wondered if their visit may be mentioned in any of the social pages of the towns on their itinerary?
These were:Montreal, Ottawa, Brockville, Kingston, Toronto, Guelph, Port Huron, Hamilton, Niagara and Montreal again.
The 1902 travellers were
1. Robert Andrew Clow (born 26 January, 1863, Clarkston, Lanarkshire), son of William Clow born 1821, Neilston, Renfrewshire. William was the son of Robert Clow (born 1793 in Drymen Stirlingshire) and his wife Susannah Johnstone. This Robert was in turn the son of a William Clow, surgeon, of Balfron, or Killearns, Stirlingshire and his wife Jean Kirkpatrick/Kilpatrick.
2. Robert Houston Weddell, (born Uddingston, Lanarkshire in 1884 ) was the son of Angela Houston (born Paisley 1846) and James Weddell. Angela was the daughter of Susannah Clow and Alexander Muirhead Houston.
These grandparents of Robert Houston Weddell spent the years 1841-1843 in Kingston, Ontario. Their first child, also Susanna, was born there in 1843. Susannah Clow was the daughter of the above mentioned Robert Clow and Susannah Johnstone, and grand-daughter of Dr William Clow and Jean Kirkpatrick/Kilpatrick.
The two travellers left Liverpool on 29 May 1902 on the Allan Liner T.S.S. "Tunisian". They returned on the same ship reaching Liverpool on 28 July of the same year.
Does anyone recognise these names or could you let me know what were the newspapers for the towns
mentioned?
Thank you
Anne
