I have a Maria Clow marrying a Matthias Burco in Defiance, OH in 1855.
An Iowa census (either Buchanan or Fayette Co.) has a record of a Malachi Clow married to Juliana Shrimplon (or July in the census) children in the household are: Saurel 1839, Nelson 1841, William 1843, Sara J 1847 and Glover 1855/1856. I'm searching for info on Maria. Malachi and Juliana aren't old enough to be her parents, but perhaps a brother?

I have that Isaac Clow was born about 1819, and died 1891 in Sydenham, Frontenac County, Ontario. He was married to Jane Sigsworth, b. 1820, and died 1878, Sydenham, Ontario. They married 1843 in Kingston, Frontenac, Ontario and had at least one son, John, b. about 1847. John married Hannah Raycroft, Jul 3, 1873, Harrowsmith, Portland, Ontario, but then I have nothing further on them. The Raycrofts were also from Kingston. The marriage listing for this couple reported that the Hannah's mother was Burnsick...but all other records show her name as Burnside.

An Isaac Clow is reported in Portland, Upper Province, Canada, in the will and subsequent sale of real estate of his brother Jacob Clow in 1825 in Kinderhook/Stuyvesant, Columbia County, NY. Isaac married Mary Magdalena Sicker, Sep. 4, 1803, at Schenectady RC. I am aware of two sons, Jacob born July 9, 1809, and John I. born Jan. 24, 1811, both Schenectady. I would be interested in any further information.

Hanna was born in 1850 in Kingston, ON. Her parents were from Ireland. One of her other sisters married a Gordon who was related to another Sigsworth. She married John Clow in Harrowsmith, Portland, Ontario in 1873, but I believe the Clows may have been in Kingston before this.

On a recent visit to inverness we found out from the library there, the clow name stems from a highland name for a high piece of flat ground normally covered in mist. Also you might be intrested to know that one of robert burns mistresses was called jenny clow, hope this helps.

The answer I sent to your address came back, and ancestry.com was inaccessible for several days. Let me try again:
The dates don't seem quite right, but the Hallenback name may be more than coincidence. Here is the most up-to-date information I have on her and her husband:
FRANCIS C. LEVALLEY
b. c.1814
m. (1) Oct. 14, 1835 Margaret Barger of Jefferson NY. He was from Summit.
(2) Feb. 13, 1840 Louisa Clow (or Glough) in Schoharie Twp., Schoharie Co. NY
census:
1850 Richmondville, Schoharie Co. NY--Francis 35 blacksmith, Louisa 28, Saul 7, Harriet A. 5, Louisa E. 1, Sally Hollenback 24, Mary A. Lavalley 9
1860 Richmondville, Schoharie Co. NY--Francis C. 42 blacksmith $600 real estate $500 personal estate, Louisa 36, Mary Ann 19, Amelia 15, Elizabeth 11, Antonette 7, Marcus 4, Edna 2/12
1870 Richmondville NY--Francis 55 blacksmith $1500 real estate $100 pers. estate, Louisa 45 house keeper, Lavinia 20 laborer, Marcus 14, Eda 10 (f)
military:
Co. D, 5th U.S. Cavalry in the Civil War.
2/28/1890 applied in person at Washington D.C. for a disability pension.
I have no proof that he is the missing son of Benjamin. By his dates and location, he must have been a grandson of either Peleg or Cook. Peleg's family is well documented past the date of his birth, so there seems to be no niche for him there. That leaves three possibilities child of Cook's 2nd son (name unknown), child of Cook's 3rd son Rufus, or child of Cook's 4th son Benjamin. Of these three, only Benjamin's family is known to have stayed in Schoharie Co. where Francis lived. Furthermore, only Benjamin is known to have had a son in Francis' age bracket--though the others may have. Until contradictory evidence appears, this seems the most logical place to put him.
The marriage record misspells his last name, and spells Louisa's name Loiza Clow. He and Louisa were married in a High and Low Dutch Reformed Congregation. Their daughter Amelia's death certificate spells Louisa's maiden name as Glough. Clow is a known surname; Glough is not.
Schoharie Co. land records:
5/9/1845 Francis C. of Cobleskill NY witnessed the will of Henry Mann in Schoharie Co.
3/5/1850 Francis C. and wife Louisa sold 1 acre along a ditch in Richmondville to George Diefendorf for $500.
7/5/1864 Francis C. and Louisa sold land at Richmondville to Sarah Hallenbeck for $575.
5/26/1872 Francis C. and Louisa sold 1 acre along a ditch to Henry A. Shaver for $1800.
