Hi, Margaret. I have done quite a bit of looking into the various Clouse families in Kentucky and Tennessee in my efforts to trace my own Clouse ancestor. I believe the Katherine Clouse you are looking for was born about 1873, as she is listed on the 1880 Madison Co, KY census with parents James and Nancy, and is listed as being 6 years old. If you are looking on Ancestry, James is listed as "Jas" and Katherine is spelled with a "C" - harder to find with the new Ancestry search than the old one.
I believe her Clouse grandparents (father of her father, James) to have been Adam Clouse (m. to Temperance "Tempy" Estes). They are listed in adjacent households in the 1880 census, In 1860, Adam is in Claiborne Co, TN with son James, and in 1870, they are both in Jackson Co, KY in separate households.
Hope this helps. I only have information on Katherine to about 1910, so I was unaware of her marriage or divorce to Joseph Woods. I do, however, have names of her Hollingsworth children if you are interested.

Margaret Patton,
I've never heard of a Katherine Clouse. I also don't know anything about any Clouse family in Jackson county. There is a Clouse cemetery in Knox county. Those two counties are fairly close together.
However, Jackson county is also close to Garrard and Jessamine counties. Those are the counties my Clouse family was from. There are a number of people in my Clouse family lines or related lines that have the name James, but I've never heard of any of them going by the nickname 'Jim'.
All of my Clouse family left Kentucky in the mid-1800s. There were some other lines of my Clouse family that maybe drifted off to other parts of Kentucky. I talked to someone in Garrard county who said all the Clouse family had left the immediate area around the old homestead, but he did know about one of the descendents who ended up in Madison county. Jackson county is directly next to Jackson county.
I don't know if any of that is helpful. If you get a chance to travel to Kentucky, there are many records that can be found at the local level that can't be found online. Most of the counties have family research centers or else family research areas of the county public library.
Good luck,
Ben Steele

I'm looking for information on a Katherine Clouse, daughter of James 'Jim' Clouse and Nannie Cain. All I know is that Katherine was born about 1894 (according to the death certificate, I think it might be wrong) and she died 1936 in Fayette Co, KY. The death certificate says she was born in Jackson Co, KY. She married my Great Grandfather Joseph Woods and they were divorced abt 1932. She was also married to a Hollingsworth at some time before she married the Woods. I have tried to find her parents in the census, but have not been able to. Was just wondering if you have these Clouse in your family.
Thanks,
Margaret Patton

Since our last comments here in this discussion, I've visited Jessamine and Garrard.
I did look at the marriage records and found William Clouse's marriage to Patsy Fain in Jessamine. I didn't go to the courthouse to get the original document, but I found all the information listed in a book for Jessamine marriages (February 15, 1827. The same book gives the information for several other marriages: James W. Clouse and Sally Ann Whicker, William Finn (Fain) and Sally Walters, and William Fain and Nancy Boatman.
It would have been nice to have spent some time at the courthouse, but we were traveling to many different counties. My parents weren't much interested in spending long hours looking for records at the courthouse. I would assume the original documents could be found, since the transcriptions are given in that county book.
I haven't located any other descendants of William and Patsy. William is supposedly buried in the Clouse-Burton cemetery with his first wife, Sallie Teater. There is a James Clouse buried there as well who is close to the same age, maybe a brother or cousin. I don't know where Patsy Fain was buried.
