I knew it was one of those "B-something" counties! Maybe it wasn't your Andrew who was in the Civil War - I don't know much about that particular Clouse family (obviously, since I couldn't even remember what county they lived in). But I do know there was an Andrew Clouse in the Civil War, who enlisted and served in Indiana, and it wasn't mine. Wonder who he was???

FYI to those who are interested in Clouses of Indiana: there are two George W. Clouses in Indiana in this time period. My line is George W. Clouse, born KY, with son Andrew J. Both of them lived in the Fountain/Montgomery County at different times (almost on the county line).
The other is George W. Clouse, with son Andrew K., who I believe lived in Bartholomew County (please correct me if I'm wrong - this one isn't mine!).
If I remember, both Andrews fought in the Civil War, but Andrew K. enlisted in IN and Andrew J. crossed the western state line and enlisted in IL for some reason.

Another spelling comes from a book of Virginia land owners ca mid 1600s after his arrival in America (found the book in my small-town local library in Texas, of all places, so it must be fairly common) - Closse was the spelling listed for Phettiplace on the land documents at that time. Will try to find and post the exact name of the book.
