Hi, Lianne. Thanks for putting out there the info on GW Clouse Jr. who went to Garrard and Jessamine Cos. Ky. I was starting to think I was the only one with the info!
The father of the George Washington Clouse who married Lydia Watson (or Lyda, as on one census) was Aaron "Leatherman" Clouse and Mary "Polly" LNU, as evidenced by a copy I have of his obituary.

As far as I can see, documentation on the Phettiplace Close line ends with his son William.
Phettiplace Close does not appear in "Adventurers of Purse and Person" (4th ed., editor John Frederick Dorman) except in the reproduction of the Muster which appears at the front of Volume 1. Presumably Dorman didn't find any evidence of descendants of Phettiplace Close, beyond his son. It doesn't prove that there are no present-day descendants of Phettiplace Close, but without documentation it's impossible to know whether there are or aren't.
So there can't be a Y-DNA study of descendants of Phettiplace Close, because no one can document descent from him.
But you could start a Clouse Y-DNA study. There doesn't seem to be one at present.
James

I AM ALSO LOOKING FOR HIS PARENTS MY FATHER HAD BEEN RESEARCING AND HE HAD COME UP WITH HIS FATHER BEING GEORGE WASHINGTON CLOUSE AND HE WAS MARRIED TO A PERSON NAMED LYDA OR LYDIA HE DID NOT HAVE A LAST NAME BUT I FOUND ON A CENSUS A GEORGE AND LYDA AND A WOMEN WITH THEM WHICH APPEARS TO BE LYDA MOTHER ELIZABETH WATSON. GEORGE WASHINGTON JR WAS NOT ON THE CENSUS AS HE WAS OLD ENOUGH TO BE OUT ON HIS OWN. BUT THE OTHER FACTS MATCH. HIS FATHER GEORGE SR WAS BORN 1813 IN TN I BELIEVE AND LYDA WAS ALSO BORN 1813 BUT IN N. CAROLINA. IF YOU CAN VERIFY ANY OF THIS PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANKS MARTA MILLER MARTA3(a)COX.NET

Are there DIRECT MALE LINE DNA markers published somewhere for the Phettiplace Close/Clause/Clouse lines?
I would like to compare.
Our CLOSE line must have been pronounced "Clause" or "Clouse" because the last three generations have used the "Clause" spelling, where as our earliest know progenitor used "Close". I've found our pogenitors surname spelled Closse, Klose, and Claus in some old records.

It's spelt "Close" in the Muster. It's spelt "Clause" in his 1628 patent. But both those records were written by other people, and in the case of the patent, that's a copy of the original. Who knows how he would have spelt it himself. We don't even know if he knew how to sign his name. Many colonists signed with an X.
His son William's 1638 patent has it spelt "Cloys". But again, the record wasn't written by William. There's no knowing exactly how he thought his surname should be spelt, unless there's a document surviving which has his signature. Is there?

Lewis was born c. 1830 in Ohio. This comes from the 1850, 1860 and 1880 US Census information. Hannah was born c. 1833 in Ohio. This comes from the 1860 US Census information.
Regarding the Starr information, I agree with the poster that says that the records do not show birth place. I have not seen good evidence that Christopher Clouse (Anna Catharina Hench) and descendants are descended from Phettiplace Close. Neither have I seen good evidence that there is a relationship of Thomas Clouse with Christopher Clouse.
Regards,
James

The Starr was the name of the ship which brought Phettiplace Close to Jamestown in 1608. I think that is what was being referred to by the previous poster. No records of the Starr's 1608 passengers exist, except for two mentions in the 1624/5 Muster.
The 1624/5 Muster (see http://www.virtualjamestown.org/Muster/muster24.html for a searchable version) shows two passengers of the Starr's 1608 voyage: Phettiplace Close and Francis Chapman -- both at Paces Paines, which is interesting. Close and Chapman may have known each other back in England, before they embarked for Virginia.
I think it is unlikely that Phettiplace Close was born in Germany, since there is no evidence to indicate that he was. Most of the early settlers were English. Phettiplace Close probably was too. If anyone has any evidence that he was born in Germany, I will be happy to be corrected.
