If you're still reading this forum, I'd be interested to know why you think Phettiplace Close was German.
I've seen this stated as if it were proven fact, in several forum threads and on various websites. But so far I haven't seen anyone give a source for this. I'd like to find out if there is any actual evidence (for example, a German birth record, recorded at the time of his birth and still in existence) which shows or suggests that Phettiplace Close was German.
If you know of any such evidence could you please explain what it is?
James Blair

Clouse III - according to this, he was not). The webpage has since been removed, so I'm glad I copied and pasted it into my MS-Word program!
