Hi,
Every time I see the subject George W. Clouse I think of my maternal 2nd
great grandfather, George W. Clouse. :) My George W. Clouse, middle name
was William, was born May 19, 1836 Hesse, Germany and came to America abt.
1850. He settled in Western Pa. and married Anna Martha Rebolt who was also
born in Germany. They had 11 children. George died Aug 14, 1910 Rimerton,
Madison Twp., Armstrong Co., Pa. and Anna Martha died Dec. 21, 1919 Widnoon,
Armstrong Co., Pa. Both are buried in Rimer Hill Cemetery, Madison Twp.,
Armstrong Co., Pa.
Just thought I would through my grandfather's name out there and if anyone
knows about him, would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Lona Laughlin Boudreaux

You are like me, although I am almost 100% convinced that these families are connected. Everything is circumstantial, of course, but there are just almost too many connections betwen the two. The "Leatherman" being one of them. I'm still interested in the origin of that particular "nickname", so if you find anything out or know any more about it, please let me know.
Thanks!

Demas "Leatherman" Clouse is in my family tree. I was trying to get connections with the Clouse's of Virginia & Tennessee with the Clouse's of Pennsylvania.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Aaron "Leatherman" Clouse was a Clouse - a son of George Clouse I, as he is commonly known. I'm not sure where the "Leatherman" nickname came from - possibly it has to do with how he made his livelihood. I only know that Pat Franklin referenced Aaron this way in her book on the Clouses.

The father of the GW Clouse (spouse Lydia Watson) of Marion County, TN was Aaron "Leatherman" Clouse, another son of George Clouse I. I have a copy of GW Clouse of Marion Co's obituary that identifies his father and mother. If we Clouses hadn't named all of our offspring after our many uncles and brothers, it wouldn't be so confusing!

I saw a posting on a family tree naming Mindy Benton's mom
as Debbie Williams, no source cited. According to 1870 ARK
census, Nathan Benton is md. to Mary. On 1880 same, his wife
is Mary C. On 1900 same, he is widowed with 6 add'l kids,
including Mindy A, b. July 1897, the last one. It is possible Mary died after son James is b. 1880; Nathan may
have remarried to a Debra Williams and had 6 more kids;
then Debra may have died between Mindy's b. and 1900 census.
The family tree posting was from a descendant of Carl E.'s
sister, Opal Lee Clouse. Nathan J. Benton's parents were Richard M. Benton and 1st wife Rachel. Lianne C. Longmire

sorry, I got mixed up on my tree, Minnie's (July 17,1897) maiden name is Benton. I believe she is the daughter of Nathan James Benton (1848) and Debra Williams. Minnie married Edward, who died in 1938. Minnie then married a Carroll, but I don't remember his first name, all the other info from my last post is correct, just messed up on the maiden name.

I believe Minnie's maiden name is New, although I am not entirely sure about that. My mom says she was also a Benton before she was Clouse, and then when Luther Edward died she remarried and became a Carrol. My mom also told me last night that her actual name may have been Mindy, but again, this is just speculation. My mom was born in Oklahoma, as Edward is my great grandfather, and their son Carl Edward is my my grandfather.

I have Edward Clouse(1877) & wife Minnie w/kids in 1920 &
1930 McCurtain Co, OK census records. Have Luther E., son
of George W. (1833) & wife Charity in 1900 Ark census. Do
not have them anywhere in 1910. According to births of kids, Edward and Minnie went to OK between birth of Lola in
Ark. in 1918 and birth of daughter Donnie B. in Nov. 1919.
Do you know Minnie's maiden name, parents, etc. I will help any way I can. George W. (1833) is my great grandpa.

I am the ggson of Edward Clouse b 1877 in Ark., who I believe to be the same as Luther Edward Clouse, the son of GW Clouse of 1833. Edward Clouse moved to Oklahoma, which is where my grandfather, Carl Edward, was born (1924). I am new to this and not sure how to verify this connection though.
