It also occurs to me to mention that my great-great-grandmother, Sarah Clouse, had both a granddaughter AND a great-granddaughter named Ida.

I neglected to mention that the three daughters, named Sarah, Mima, and Eva, of my widowed great-grandmother, Sarah Clouse of Philadelphia were all also born in Pennsylvania between 1850 and 1870.

I, too, am trying to identify Clouse ancestors in the PA/NJ area. I have a widowed Sarah Clouse, b. 1831, my great-great-grandmother, living in Philadelphia in 1880, together with three daughters, Sarah, Mima, Eva, daughter Sarah's husband, and young son, on East LeHigh Ave. Mother Sarah's own mother had been born in Germany, but Sarah and her father, as well as her unknown deceased husband, all were born in Pennsylvania. A 1900 census record indicates that mother Sarah had four children surviving out of eight. Daughters Mima and Sarah were definitely alive in 1900. I have not identified the remaining surviving children.

I have done limited searching in PA, as Leonard is supposed to be born in Sussex Co NJ and without knowing who his, at least, father is I wouldn't know what I was looking at.
I've attempted to get info on NJ through the LDS, but all their limited films are restricted - only can be viewed in Salt Lake - evidently the copyright bargan they made with NJ. Without going either place I fear I'm stuck with the knowledge I have. I have checked the limited info at the Allentown Lib in Indianapolis, but found Rev War census, relavant, but that was about it - no early marriages or births that were relevant. I think that they only chance I'd have would be church records somewhere.
I too feel that any of the Clouses' in over NJ/PA way are probably related.

I have been trying to connect them as brothers also and feel they are, but just can't find the common ancestor. I know of your Clouse family and have done a lot of research trying to make the connection. So many of the same names, there has to be one someplace. As far as my Clouse family, they did not go to Canada and can be found in the New Jersey census. I believe my family first settled in Morris county, New Jersey and moved to Sussex. In the 1870 census they can be found in Sussex County, New Jersey. Ironically, there farm sits next to another Clouse family headed by Jacob, born 1830 in Pennsylvania who I feel are also connected in some way. Have you tried looking for their roots in PA?

I have not yet seen the connection of Temperance to Sussex & Morris Co NJ, which is where my Clouse is from. It is odd the similarities of your family to mine. For instance my Leonard Clouse b. ca 1760 Sussex Co - ends up in Morris Co & is right age to be a bro of your Jacob; Leonard's first son is Jacob, b. 1787 Morris Co.; another son is John, b. ca 1799. I have been unsuccessful in finding out who Leonard's parents were - I take it you have not found your Jacob's parents?
Leonard and family, however, emigrated ca 1800 to Long Point Settlement in Norfolk Co Ontario and as far as I know none stayed behind.
There are other trees out there on John & Temperance, but I couldn't tell you know where I've seen them.

Ida C. Clouse was my 2nd great grandmother. She was born abt. 1852 in New Jersey. Her father was David Dickerson Clouse, born abt 1830 in Roxbury, Morris County. He married Margaret Elizabeth Able. David D. Clouse was the son of John Clouse, born 1793. He married Temperance?
John was the son of Jacob Clouse, born 1770 in Morris County. He married Abigail Dickerson.
I am wondering if any has any information on this family? I cannot find anything in my search and am wondering if this line is correct. I would also like to know who Temperance was. Can anyone help me?
