Martha Rose Clouse, wife of Charles Clouse, was a sister of my great-grandmother Mercy Dulcina Rose Schamp (called Dell). They both lived in Ft. Ripley, MN, and my Grandma Schamp stayed here; the Clouses moved out to the Brawley/El Centro area of CA. I have two pictures of the Charles Clouse family. Leon also wrote a short biograpical history that is on file at the Crow Wing County Historical Society, and it is quite interesting and informative. Are you certain of the information that Leon is adopted? He and Goldie were very close, and she visited back here many times. Lisle died quite young and left three little girls. I believe she is buried in Brawley, CA. I don't remember ever meeting Cecil but know he died in CA also. I have several letters written by Aunt Matt to my great-grandmother. My grandmother, Mattie May (Schamp) Reichert, was named for Mattie Clouse (I have a copy of the Rose family Bible listing all the Rose children). My Grandma Reichert and Leon Clo!
use were first cousins. Leon was also a postmaster in Fort Ripley for a long time. He married Minnie Johnson of Fort Ripley and both are buried in the Fort Ripley Cemetery here along with their daughter Lorraine, who died at age 15 or 16 of blood poisoning. Her death nearly destroyed Leon and Minnie, and they left here and traveled around a lot (including California), but eventually they came back and built a house across from the cemetery where they could see their daughter's grave every day. They did have a stillborn son too.

I know that Charles was the Post Master at Fort Ripley, born 1-28-63 and that Leon was adopted. I have years of my grandmas scrapbooks with many newspaper clippings and I will go through them and see if I can find out any more for you. How are you hooked up to the Clouses? Maybe I'll hit a jackpot with a picture. Thanks for your reply. Rachel
