Thanks for the reply. I don't know anything about Angeline, either. I knew several Cloughs, including my wife's grandmother, Ethyl M. (Herbert, Beriah). They pronounced it CLOW, not CLUFF. Controversial, I guess.

I am a descendant of John4 Clough by his second wife, Abigail Kimball. Beriah Clough is my second cousin 3 times removed. I have no record of Angeline Mary Clough.

Hello Denise
Thanks for replying so quickly! Puts me to shame. I don't know what went wrong but presumably I either didn't receive the automatic notification from Ancestry or I zapped it without realising. Anyway, all's well that ends well.
If you need more detailed information on the Clough line, do not hesitate to ask. I have a mountain of info if you'd like it.
Best wishes
Judith

How lovely to hear from you - even after 5 years!! Presumably Ophelia lived with her aunt because her mother died? I didn't know about William. Clearly Ophelia was a popular family name at that time. I will add this info to my increasingly perplexing notes and resume research on the Barringtons shortly. I do wish the 1911 full census would hurry up on this site!
Regards,
Denise

Hello Denise
For some reason I was trawling through old messages on Ancestry and came across your message and I don't think I ever replied to it. If that's the case, I apologise profusely! If I did, please accept senility as an excuse ;-)
The Ophelia Clough you refer I believe is not of the New Zealand branch but the child of Levi C and Ellen Collinson and she married James Mercer and lived in Droylsden/Audenshaw area until her death in 1918.
Her parents, Levi & Ellen continued to live in Newton Heath until William's death in 1868. Ellen died in 1841 and Levi married Alice Hardman but I believe there is no issue from this second marriage.
It was Levi's son William who emigrated to NZ and he had a daughter Ophelia (born 1858 and far too young to be the Ophelia who was staying with Aunt Ophelia is 1851).
Again, apologies for delay in replying!
Judith
