I found an african-american family in the 1850 US census and again in the 1855 Mass. state census. Their names are Richard and Angeleine (or angelina). They appear to have been born in South Carolina. Richard was born about 1815. I found them in the Westhampton and Plainfield, Massachusetts censuses. Richard appears to have died in 1857 from small pox.
ANy information would be appreciated...
