Hi Judith,
I'm trying to trace the mother of my gt gt grandfather John Clough. He was born in 1826 in Failsworth. He married Ann De(a)venport in 1848 at St John's.(All our family have connections with this church.)On his marriage certificate hia father is shown as Johnathan Hilton , Ann's father as William.I can find no trace of any of the above in the 1841 census.Have you any suggestions? if you want to look at my tree it is public and is called Clough Family Tree Failsworth.
Kind Regards
Anne

Hi Lee,
Thanks for the information.I made a mistake with John's father.John (1826) was the son of a John Hilton. This is shown on his marriage certificate to an Ann Devenport.I'm now stuck!! I dont know Johns mothers name.Their are a lot of James,Johns,Josephs & Williams on both my sides of tree.(My mothers Maiden Name was Harrison)So I do get a biet con fused at times.
In the 1950s we emigrated to Australia on the assissted passage scheme. My late brother told me we stayed with cousins but of which side I dont know.We lived in Springvale is this perhaps a link.
Regards
Anne

I'm looking for information about the family tree of William Henry Clough Sr., who married Jennie Armstrong. I think they were born around 1920, but I'm not sure.

Alexander Clough, b. 13 Jan, 1822, in Canada, married Julia Melvina Chatterton. Does anyone know the history of this family? I am particularly interested in their daughter, Amanda, born 1856, probably in Whitecloud, Missouri. I have searched, and searched, trying to find out what happened to her after she is found in the 1870 Mills County, Iowa, Federal Census. From what I gather Alexander went west from Iowa, probably eventually to Utah, and Julia remained in Iowa. I can't find Amanda and would love to know if, and whom, she married. In the 1870 census she is listed as Amanda Cluff and is living with the Samuel Allis family
