Anne,
We are talking about the same family! Gibson Clough (1738-1799) had a younger brother named Gibson (1723-1736). Their father was Ebenezer Clough and mother was Anne Gibson. The Cloughs lived in Boston in 1720s but moved to Salem by 1736. Ebenezer and son Gibson were bricklayers (masons). Gibson Clough is somewhat famous for his journal, 1759-1761 during the Louisbourg campaign, and in it he wrote his brother sent a letter saying his father had died. I thought it was 1760. Gibson did marry twice. I didn't have any info on sister Lydia. Can you let me know your sources, because it seems you've got info that I'm missing! Thanks. I'm also trying to figure out who Ebenezer's parents were, but there were several candidates in Boston.

You have a date typo, which changes everything!
Hear lies the body of Gibson Clough, son to Ebener. And Ann Clough, who departed this life August the 1 Day, Aged 12 years, 1736. Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts , US
(See also www.gravematters.com)
Ebenezer & Ann Clough had two sons named Gibson. The first one was christened 6 Oct 1723 in Boston and died in 1736. The second one christened 25 June 1738 in Salem who was buried 18 July 1799 (not death date).

What is Gibson and Ebenezer Clough's line back to John Clough of Salisbury?

I'm also interested in Gibson as well as Lydia Clough.
The information I have though indicates that Gibson Clough, was born about 1738 in Salem and died in July, 1799, but my information stated that his father's name was also Gibson, who came from Boston to Salem in 1733 (with a windmill). He was a mason by trade, and afterwards served as Sexton for the East Church in Salem from 1750 to 1761, when he died. The Gibson born in 1738, married Sara Hilliard in 1762 and Susanna Mansfield in 1763. Gibson's sister Lydia, born about 1735 in Salem, married a Valpy (possibly Abraham) who died sometime between 1770 and 1784. Lydia died in July, 1801. If you think this is the same Gibson Clough, I would appreciate hearing from you.
