Hi list. Hope someone's listening in :-)
I have my gr gr gr grandmother Betsey Clough of Arundel, ME m. to John
Brown in Wells, ME. From my notes,
> marriage intention filed 5 Feb 1790 Wells, Maine (vital
> records...birth, marriage, death Wells, ME online at NEHGS)
I also have 1850 Census showing Betsey Brown still alive in 1850 aged
88. Based on this her birth year would be ca. 1762.
I also have her name on Revolutionary War pension records. What I DON'T
have is any link of Betsey to the Clough line of John Clough from
Salisbury, MA although I think it's inevitable that such link will
appear...somewhere.
Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of
Worcester County mentions on page 444 a 3d? generation descendant of
John Clough of Salisbury who removed from Salisbury to Kittery, ME then
to Arundel and whose age and that of nine listed children would place
him in the approximately right time frame and location. This would be
Samuel Clough, son of Thomas, son of John. He married Hannah Hutchins
2/14/1736/37. The above named publication lists nine children but NO
Betsey/Elizabeth.
I've seen a copy of "The Story of the Family of John Clough of
Salisbury, Ma" on eBay in CD-ROM format but the ad show no photos and
the seller has several other similar listings for other genealogical
products. Don't know if I trust it to be a legitimate offer.
All assistance gratefully accepted!
