Has anyone seen a copy of the book mentioned below? I am a descendant of
Samuel Clough, who moved to Maine from NH and married Sarah Estes (and
converted to the Quaker faith).
I would like to know if this book has much background on the Maine Cloughs.
Thanks, Clark Whelton

I'm trying to help my friend, Mitchell Clogg, formerly of Baltimore, find out about his Eastern Shore (Delmarva) ancestors. Can anyone put me on the lead of how to research these, and earlier, Cloggs? Are there websites or histories or whatever? Are Clogg and Clough the same?
Thanks, Denis

Harold Linclon Clough, born 12 Feb 1919 in Mechanic Falls, ME, died 5 July
2004 in DeForest, Dane, WI,
age 85.
Son of Alvah Clough/Elizabeth Beckwith and
grandson of Edwin Clough /Sarah E. Malone
and great-nephew of Edwin's twin brother, Edgar C. Clough), Harold was the
great grandson of David Crossman Clough/Avis Keen Jones, all of Maine.
Later in life Harold Clough changed his name to Beckwith. He provided a DNA
sample which proved his family's genetic link with the New England Cloughs.
(Posted for Harold's daughter, Irene Clough Hahn)
Hello again, Listers,
I am very sorry but I made two serious errors in my previous message.
1.)It would have been Elizabeth and not Emma who died before her father.
2.)I have no proof that William was Sarah's father - he could have been a
brother or any other relation.
Once again, my apologies.
Margaret Lyne.
Hello Listers,
I live in New Zealand and have been researching my family history for some
time now.
I a wondering if anyone out there has come across my Sarah Clough &
Frederick Hall. Fred was my gt.gt grandfather and Sarah was his first wife.
I am descended from his second wife but I am curious about the 2-3 children
born to Fred & Sarah. There were 1 male & 1 female listed on Fred's death
cert. as living issue and I think that their names were Frederick William b.
16-9-1854 and Elizabeth b. 10-5-1856. I have found another daughter,
Emma b. 15-7-1852 but she must have died before her father. They were all
christened in St. Clement Danes, Westminster, London.
Sarah contracted TB (c)1859 and it appears that Fred left England for
Australia sometime before she died on 11-9-1868 in Old Heath, Colchester.
Her father, William, was present at her death. Fred arrived in N.Z. sometime
around 1862-67 and married Celia Christison, my gt.gt. grandmother, 5-5-1869
in Charleston.
My puzzle is: Did the 2 children of Fred's first marriage come with him or
stay in England? I wonder if maybe, TB being such a contagious and terminal
disease, that they also lost Emma to it, and that Sarah gave Fred permission
to take the other 2 children and leave the country. There were certainly
very clear details about their ages on his death certificate. Sarah's death
certificate stated that she was the wife of Hall, butcher.
I would really appreciate some help on this one.
Mrs. Margaret Lyne.
