I'm looking for the family of Eunice Clough, who was born in Bradford, NH
about 1803. In 1829, she left Boston,MA to work as a teacher among the
Choctaw Indians in Mississippi. In April of 1839 she returned to Boston to
visit relatives until October of 1839, when she started her return trip. In
January 1840, she arrived in Greenfield, Choctaw Nation Indian Territory.
Eunice married Noah Wall on May 23, 1840, in Doaksville, Indian Territory.
They had one son, Samuel Clough Wall, born August 24, 1842. Noah Wall died
August 31,1842. Eunice died September 1842 at Fort Gibson, Indian
Territory. Samuel was raised for a while by his older half- brother Dave,
but apparently, when he was 7, an uncle (maybe Eunice's brother??) came out
from Vermont and took him home to educate him. Samuel was there for about 9
years, and then came back to the "Territory".
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone???
Thanks,
Cheri McKay
Hi List,
A friend just sent me this. Maybe it will be useful to some of you?

Grant, Iowa and Lafayette Wisconsin, publ. 1901 - page 955-956
HENRY B. GIFFORD, M.D., occupies an honorable place among the medical
practitioners of Green county. At his home in Juda he is known as a
man
of exhaustive information, large medical experience, and high
character.
Dr. GIFFORD is a son of Rev. J. S. and Julia (BALIS) GIFFORD. The
father was born in Cayuga county, N.Y., Dec. 8, 1826, and has been a
clergyman of the Free-Will Baptist Church for fifty years; the mother
was a
daughter of Abitha and Maria (CLOUGHS) BALIS, both of New York. To
their union were born four children: Nellie M., the eldest, is the
widow of
Oliver C. DUNWELL, of Rock county, Wis. Josephine died in childhood.
Henry B. is our subject. Joseph B., who was born April 1, 1870,
resides at Brodhead, Wis. Alden GIFFORD, the grandfather of Dr. Henry
B.,
was born in Massachusetts, and moved to New York, where he reared a
family of thirteen children. He as a Presbyterian in religion, an
upright
man, and a most successful farmer.
Henry B. GIFFORD was born on a farm at Orfordville, Wis. April 12,
1859, and obtained his general education in the public schools. At the
age
of nineteen he took up the study of medicine, and gradated from Rush
Medical College, Chicago, Feb. 20, 1883. The first location he made
for
the practice of his profession was at Cherry Valley, Ill., where he
resided for three years having an extensive patronage throughout the
adjoining country. He then practiced in Orfordville for ten years. In
1895
the Doctor moved to Juda, Green county, where he has established
himself as a thoroughly competent and successful physician.
Dr. GIFFORD and Miss Lydia A. CRAMER were married Feb. 20, 1884. Mrs.
GIFFORD is the daughter of Brook and Catherine (LOVETTE) CRAMER, of
Cherry Valley, Ill., honorable and upright people, of German ancestry.
To
this union have been born one son and one daughter, V.M., July 12,
1886, and Harry G., March 30, 1892. Dr. GIFFORD is a stanch
Republican.
He is a Royal Arch Mason in good standing, a member of the Independent
Order of Odd Fellows, the Woodmen, and the Home Forum, and, as might be
expected, belongs to the Central Wisconsin Medical Association and the
Wisconsin State Medical Association. He is local medical examiner for
all the leading life insurance companies. The Doctor has made his own
way in the world, and has met with marked success. He came to Juda
without the assurance of the least patronage, and, by his courteous
manners, manifest devotion to his profession, and the mastery of its
details,
has won for himself a very large practice. He is a good citizen!
, and attentive and kind to all, and seems to present in his own
personality, in a striking degree, the qualities that make for success
in his
profession.

Thanks a bunch.

I am not sure if this will help. My Grandfather was George Richard Clough
of Virginia. I don't even know if this is the same person you are speaking

This is for Janet Hunter in Virginia. We've had Cloughs of Virginia but
they weren't connected to your Cloughs. Of course the ones that tested
turned out not to match the Welsh Cloughs either. Now would be a good time
to have one of your male Cloughs participate - let Sheila Andersen or me
know if you're ready to do so. Thanks. Rebecca Clough Harpole

Hi Al,
I do have the answer on my other computer. Can't access it at the moment,
(my daughter has the monitor). I'll try to transfer that data after the
holidays
and get back to you all. Moses is buried in Southview Cemetery in Randolph,
Vt. At one point I photographed the stone. Will also try to find
that. Moses'
son, James Madison Clough and his wife, Caira Hoisinton Clough are buried
in Southview, with at least two of their children. Emily Martin and her
husband
on one side of James and Caira. Lyman Judson (with his two wives - Josephine
Darling and Ellen LaPoint) on the other side of James and Caira. Moses and
his
wife are buried closer to the front of the cemetery. I thought I had found
Moses
parents also buried in the same cemetery, but when I was there a couple of
years age couldn't seem to find the spot again so I may be mistaken about that.

Hello Everyone,
I have been off the list for quite a while and am curious if the DNA of a
descendant of George/Richard Clough of Virginia has been tested yet?
My best regards and wishes for a happy holiday,
Janet (Baugh) Hunter, Descendant of Richard Clough and Anne Poindexter
by by way of "Bonnie S. Dannenberg" <bonniesd@Together.Net>
When did Moses Clough really die, in 1789 or 1829? Both dates are shown.
Was Cornelius Conner really born in MA or in England? He is listed as one of
the first founders of Salisbury, MA, but was he really born there?
Sarah Clough, daughter of Jabez. Her birth date, even if in 1743 must have
made her mother unhappy.
Are there sources for this data? I am very interested in the children of
Jabez Clough.
Thanks,
Mary Lou Wood
Dear Cousins,
I am so sorry it has taken me this long to get back to all of you who want a
copy of this year's family reunion. Too many things going on here, plus I
haven't been well for the past three months, and I am sick yet again.
The cost of a copy of the picture is $1.79 plus postage (I don't know the
cost of that yet.) Because the photos are panoramics and because they only
fit in large photo mailers, I imagine it will cost more for mailers and
postage than for the picture itself. It should be under $5.00, but that is
just a guess. I am only charging for what it costs me to have the picture
made and for the mailer and postage.
That being the case, if you are still interested in purchasing a copy of the
reunion photo, let me know and I will try to get them out to you in January.
Email me with your request and let me know how many photos you would like. I
will include the price with the photo, and you can just send me a check.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
Love from your secret cousin,
Linda Freehling

Looking for birthplace and parentage of Mehitable Clough. I have her birthdate to be 31 Mar 1739. She first married a Mr. Tarr and had Elizabeth, Abraham, Mary & Joseph. She then married as the Widow Tarr to Moses Cooper on 16 Feb 1767 in Gloucester, MA. Mehitable & Moses had Sarah, Jedediah & Moses Jr. Any information is appreciated. Thank you.

Greetings! Hope you are all doing well and enjoying the holidays!
Found these Janes on the internet ship lists around the time John Clough also

20 September, 1635, Passengers of the Truelove, Master John Gibbs:
Jane Walston age 19
The Abigail, Master Robert Hackwell, sailed July, 1635:
Joan Jordan servant (Hadborne) age 16 22 June 1635
Joan Wallis . 19 17 June 1635
The Susan & Ellin Master Edward Payne, sailed May, 1635:
Joanna Pynder age 14 13 Apr 1635
Joanna Broomer age 13 14 Apr 1635
The Elizabeth & Ann Master Robert Cooper, sailed May, 1635:
Jane Damand . age 9 13 Apr 1635
The Planter, Master Nicolas Travice, sailed April 1635:
Jane Giddens . age 20 1 Apr 1635
swore oath
at St.Albans, Herts
I believe all the dates after their names are when they swore oaths in
England.
There was a Joan Sellin on the Elizabeth with John, but she was 50 years old,
far too old for him.

Joan Wallis . 19 17 June 1635
The Susan & Ellin Master Edward Payne, sailed May, 1635:
Joanna Pynder age 14 13 Apr 1635
Joanna Broomer age 13 14 Apr 1635
The Elizabeth & Ann Master Robert Cooper, sailed May, 1635:
Jane Damand . age 9 13 Apr 1635
The Planter, Master Nicolas Travice, sailed April 1635:
Jane Giddens . age 20 1 Apr 1635
swore oath
at St.Albans, Herts
I believe all the dates after their names are when they swore oaths in
England.
There was a Joan Sellin on the Elizabeth with John, but she was 50 years old,
far too old for him.

Dear Cousins,
Greetings! Hope you are all doing well!
Found these Janes on the internet ship lists around the time John Clough also
arrived. I have heard that Jane might also have been Jone/Joan/Joanna(h).
Thought maybe these names might give someone a lead. You never know:
Some JANEs/JOANs/JOANNAHs that came to New England 1635:

There seems to be a discrepancy concerning the father of Daniel Clough, b.
1763, d. 1840 m. Abigail Atwood. It would seem that the famous Clough BOOK
advises that Daniel is the son of Jabez Clough and Sarah Young. However, I
have received a whole lot of material, which has contained documented
evidences that This Daniel is not the son of Jabez at all, but of another
Daniel Clough. It would seem that the famous CLOUGH references is very fuzzy
on some members of the Clough family.
I would very much appreciate it if there is anyone out there who would be
able to authenticate the relationship between Jabez Clough and the son,
Daniel who married Abigail Atwood.
hopefully,
Mary Lou Wood
