Interesting seeing that subject line.
One set of my GGrandparents were CLOUGH and JONES. Sam'l Goodhue JONES from
Dennysville, ME married Annella Catherine CLOUGH from China, ME. They came
down to Ashland, MA where they had one daughter, my Grandmother, Nellie May.
They were in Framingham, MA for a while; then Annella was in Natick, MA until
she died about 1932. Samuel (also known by his middle name 'Goodhue' at
times) was living in Boston while Nellie was living in Natick, though she was
still characterized as his wife until she became his widow in the early
1920's.

It is possible that Abagail Jones born in Madison, Maine, in 1806 was
related to my great-grandmother, Avis Keene Jones, born in South China,
Maine, in 1817. Avis Jones, daughter of Isaac Jones and Nancy Randall
Jones, also married a Clough... David Clough of Brunswick-Durham, Maine, son
of Isaac Clough and Mary Crossman Clough, in 1845. Both families were
devoutly Quaker. Can anyone tell me where Madison,
Maine, is located?

Dear Andrea,
Your question about possible descendants of Joseph Clough born about 1748
in New Hampshire rang a bell with me. My own ggggrandfather went by
William Clough but allegedly changed his name from Joseph. Can you e-mail
me off-line to compare notes? We don't have William/Joseph's actual
birthdate but he could very well have been born around that date. Thanks
for your help. Rebecca Clough Harpole
Hello, Clough Family -
My husband is a descendant of one Joseph Clough ("b. abt. 1748" in New
Hampshire) second husband of Abigail Buswell Silver, herself a daughter of
Elizabeth Clough and James Buswell. Linda Freehling
kindly suggested that our Joseph may be one of the eight children of John
Clough (b. 5 July 1708, Salisbury, Essex, Ma.) and Tabitha Welch (b. 10 Mar.
1709, Kingston, Rockingham, New Hampshire), daughter of Samuel Welch and
Mary Judkins. This is a good possibility, since Tabitha's sister Mary
married Elisha Clough (they were Abigail Buswell's grandparents)and Tabitha
and Mary's brother Samuel Welch married John and Elisha's sister Eleanor
Clough. Tabitha died
"before Oct. 1750" which may account for Joseph ("b. abt. 1748") apparently
not knowing exactly when he was born. From what I've been able to gather,
John and Tabitha's eight children were: Lydia (1734-1735), John, Lydia,
Hannah, Amos, Nathan, Joseph and Benjamin (b. 29 May 1750). Joseph may have
been born in Brentwood, New Hampshire.
I've found very little information regarding John and Tabitha
and their children online, so I was wondering if there are any descendants
of this line out there? In addition to finding a niche for Joseph, I'm
curious about this family group. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Andrea Edwards
