Hello Cousins
Thought I would take this time to send a little reminder, any articles for
the bulletin are due by June 1st. Shows how much I had on my mind when I did
the last bulletin, I never did put the next due date on that one!
All is well here, and Im loving living in the Valley of the Sun! But I do
know I never ever want to make a move across country like this again. HAHA.
Seems we left quite a bit behind that we were not supposed to, but never
fear, all my John Clough Society items did come with us!
Hope you all are fine.
Your Cousin Jackie

Hi Kathy,
I haven't seen anything on your connection.
However, In my research for my ancestor, John Clough of Virginia, I've come
across a family that might be connected to your family. The information is
on a tombstone in Newport, KY (across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, OH) and
it refers to:
John CLOUGH, born in Preston, England, Nov. 23, 1778, died May 31, 1835
Mary, his wife born in Cheshire, England May 11, 1781, died Jan 1, 1854
Joseph, son of J&M, born May 19, 1810, died April 1, 1877
Mary, daughter of J&M Clough, born April 26, 1813, died March 26, 1882
Hi
Just to introduce myself, I am looking for any CLOUGH's
in Blackburn who may be related to Walter and Mary Clough
who moved there in the early 1900's. My fathers name was
George and he had a brother Thomas and 2 sisters Maude and
Margaret Hannah. My father was the only one born in Blackburn
the others were born in Nantwich Cheshire before 1910

I'm working on a Clough line that includes a George Clough born in 1816
in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. His family emigrated to America sometime
in the mid-1800's.
I don't have much information on the family prior to 1816, and am wondering
if anyone else does. I have one clue that George's father was Robert Clough,
married to Hannah - these would still be in Yorkshire. Any info?

Daniel M. Clough, son of Daniel M., and Anna (Hunt) Clough, was born at
Bath, N. H., October 11, 1826, and after a common school education, he
began work with his father, learning the blacksmith trade. He afterward
went to South Troy, Vt., where he completed his trade in the blacksmith
shop of James Houston, remaining there nearly two years. In 1847, he began
work at his trade on the Central Vermont Railroad, which was then being
built, and his headquarters were at Bethel village. He afterward opened
a shop here, where he remained five years, at which time he bought the
J. Wilson farm on Christian Hill. This he afterward sold and moved to the
village, but bought the property back in 1885, and has since bought the
adjoining farm, making it one of the largest and best in this vicinity.
In 1862, Mr. Clough was one of the first to enlist from Bethel, and was
member of Company A, Sixteenth Vermont Volunteers, serving nine months
under Captain Henry A. Easton, returning with the rank of first lieutenant.
He immediately re-enlisted in Company F, Seventeenth Vermont Volunteers,
in command of Captain Lyman E. Knapp. Here he found plenty of active service,
and was at the battles of the Wilderness, Spottsylvania Court House, and
was wounded at the battles of Poplar Grove in front of Petersburg and at
Spottsylvania. At the former place he was taken prisoner on September 30,
1864, and was exchanged December 24, of the same year. He was laid off
on account of disability, and after being sent from Annapolis to Montpelier,
he was mustered out June 12, 1865. Mr. Clough has always been a democrat
and was chosen selectman in 1889, serving three years. He is a member of
White River Lodge, No. 90, F. and A. M. On June 19, 1850, he married Laura
L. Brooks of Bethel, and they had four children, two of whom are living,
viz: Fred M. and Laura E. Fred M., born June 30, 1853, married Kate Ferguson
of Stillwater, N. Y., and their two children are Daniel Allen, born March
4, 1886, and Ralph, born December __, 1893.
Laura Elva, born March 5, 1857, married James Welch, who died leaving one
daughter, Ella Laura, born December 12, 1880. On May 15, 1887, Laura E.
married E. G. Carpenter of Bethel.

have any luck!

I just found that as a DAR member, I have access to the on-line DAR Patriot
Index service. I can now perform lookups for anyone that would like me to do
so.
I will be gone from April 15-April 19th to the 110th DAR Continental Congress
in Washington DC :) I am joining my Mom and sister-in-law there and we plan
to have a great time!
Please wait until I return before sending me any requests. I will send
further instructions upon my return. Thanks!

Dear Cousins,

<<FYI...
COUNTDOWN TO ELLIS ISLAND OPENING
=====================================================================
On 17 April, The American Family Immigration History Center will open
on Ellis Island, to great fanfare. Genealogists all over will be
logging in to search the newly created database of passenger arrival
records of 17 million people who immigrated through the port of New
York from 1892-1924.
Ellis Island stands as one of the most prominent and recognized
symbols of American immigration, with around 5,000 visitors a day
walking through the same halls that many of our ancestors passed
through so many years ago.
To celebrate this historic opening, Ancestry.com will be featuring
articles and Web pages to help you locate your immigrant ancestors.
Look for articles to help you get the most from passenger arrival
records, and take you beyond Ellis Island to follow up with other
resources. For those who are unable to locate their ancestors in
passenger arrival records, we will look at alternative sources.
Stay tuned for all the latest information on the events planned. For
more information, see the Immigration History Center page at:
http://www.ellisislandrecords.org>>

I have found a tentative link to my CLOUGH line through a lineage already
published by DAR. I have the volume and page number involved.
How do I go about getting a copy of this information? Is information
published by DAR proven? The DAR website is very confusing. Help?

what is a Gedcom and soundex? I know what the books are that are in the
library that list names for finding in census tapes, but as yet have not
figured out how to use the book to go directly to the census tape to
find stuff. what I have been doing is looking at the whole tape and it
has been very hard.. I know,, I asked at the desk and they were no help,
my library is not the helping kind. it is in Orlando and very limited to
help. but they do have all the tapes for census , ships records. but
looking at the whole tape, I am finding I am missing stuff because by
the time I get to the middle I am tired of looking and over look
names.Judy
