Hello All
Well guess this bulletin will be late. Having some problems with my computer
and I lost everything I had already typed into it! So I have to start over
again. I am also (as you know) in the process of packing for our big move.
So I am trying to get it all done at once. Look for it early next month.
Sorry. jackie

Received a death certificate transcript today for Clarence Marshall WOOSTER
that famed writer of Amador County, CA history and one time manager for the
San Jose Mercury News. It solved a couple of mysteries for me.
The certificate gave his father's full name, John Marshall WOOSTER, and the
fact that John was born in Albany, NY which I hadn't previously known. It
also gave his mother's name as Jeanette CLUFF born in county unknown
Michigan. Jeanette is the daughter of Abner P. CLOUGH of NY.I did not have
her name and this is also the first time I've seen the CLUFF variation of
the name spelling.
California biographical material indicates Captain Abner P. CLOUGH crossed
the plains from Milwaukee with his wife, daughter (Jeanette) and John
WOOSTER carrying the fruit seed that came to be the CLOUGH orchards in Pine
Grove, Amador, CA. John and Abner were in Pine Grove at least once
previously before migrating with the CLOUGH family to stay permanently some
time about 1850. John and Jeanette were married somewhere in CA a short
time later.
The information on the death certificate seems to validate the information
from California Historical Biography information.
Abner P. CLOUGH and John WOOSTER both died in Pine Grove, Amador County in
the mid 1800's. Abner is buried next to my gggrandfather, Orson CLOUGH of
Erie, NY in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
It seems that the migration path for Abner CLOUGH is NY>MI>IL>CA, Orson
CLOUGH NY>CA>IL>CA and John WOOSTER NY>MI>CA.
Seeking information for:
Parents of John Marshall WOOSTER b. abt. 1820.
Marriage date for John Wooster and Jeanette CLUFF. Possibly in Amador or
Calveras County.
Relationship between Abner P. CLOUGH b. abt 1800 and Orson CLOUGH b. 1823.
I do not think they are father and son..
Please let me know if any of this looks familiar to you.

Hello out there
I am currently searching for any information on a
Frances Mary Clough born in January 1877 and her Eight or nine
siblings. They (we think) hail from Halifax, Nova Scotia
She was my great great grandmother and brought up my nanna(grandmother)
she died in 1950 and in the week of her death she showed my nanna a tattoo
she had on her inner wrist of her initials F.M. for Frances Mary and a
brief story telling her how when her mother died her father could not cope
with all the children and work, so he had them put in an orphanage. Before
he sent them away he had them all marked this(tattooed with their initials)
way so that he would recognize them if he ever got back for
them(apparently he never did)
On the 14th March 1893 she married our great great grandfather who
was a bandman in the British army,The Royal Leictershire regiment, four
days later they left for Jamaica where he was posted to,then ended up in
the UK.After all this travelling she had lost contact with all her siblings.
Unfortunately we have none of their names to go on and no
information on whether they survived the orphanage at all the only thing we
have is knowing that they were all marked with their initials on their
inner wrists and hailed from Halifax, Nova Scotia
Any information or addresses of anywhere you think could help us in
this search would be greatly appreciated
Thankyou

Hi Sheila
Perhaps you could make note that I am researching the CLOUGH surname in
several CA counties. I've also put this new information into my database as
I'm not sure where these folks fit yet.

I live in Livermore California and belong to the genealogical society here.
One of the projects for the society has been getting the cemetery records
available on the web. I was out on their web site today
(http://www.l-ags.org/index.html) and found four CLOUGHs listed. I would be
happy to visit the cemeteries and photograph the graves for anyone
interested. The four people are:
Carl CLOUGH 12 Nov 1895 - 6 Aug 1975
Rose C CLOUGH 8 Mar 1887 - 15 Nov 1958
Harold CLOUGH (infant) d. 10 Apr 1947

Here is another reply about Timothy Clough. I am very sorry for not getting
this one on sooner, but it got lost in the shuffle around here and I just
found it. When I put the request into the "Most Wanted" column back in Sept.
it was at Ted Haruff's request. This reply came to me by regular mail and is
addressed to him. But Im sure anyone interested in Timothy Clough is more
than welcome to contact this person. jackie

Dear Ted Haruff;
Let me introduce myself. I am 88 yrs old Marjorie Clough Roth. I thought I
recognized the Timothy Clough your were inquiring about so got out my book
"Genealogy of Descendants of John Clough of Salisbury, MA" (available from
the JCGS) page 264.
There you will find #609 (page 264) Timothy Clough born after April 24, 1770
in Thompson CT. He married _________ and removed to Ludlow and later to
Belchertown MA. In the back of the book supplement page 11 referring to page
264-609 Timothy married Susan Orcutt.
The following item pages 264-610 is his brother John Clough who is my 5th
great grandfather. My fourth great grandfather was a son by his second wife,
Joel Barbour Clough born 10/30/1823, m. Mary Anne Pierce.
And its interesting that in the same Clough bulletin your query was in that
"Frank Harvey Clough dies at 101 years of age" (page 6) and his grandfather
and my fathers grandfather were in the above mentioned Joel Barbour Clough,
son of John Clough who was the brother of your Timothy.
Signed Marjorie C Roth"
I typed this reply out just as it is written on paper. jackie

Dear Jackie,
I am really behind times just now responding to one of your "Most Wanted"
items in the September 2000 bulletin.
Ted Harruff is probably related to the Connecticut Cloughs. I'm no
historian, but as I understood our lineage from my Mother, John, our
original ancestor had seven sons. They fanned out from their home to
settle in different areas of New England. Son Jonathan settled in Thompson
Connecticut and thus Ted's ancestor could very likely be one of our
Connecticut Cloughs. I should explain that I am a Connecticut Clough. My
Mother, Martha Clough Tibbits, was President of the Society for a couple of
terms. At the time, I was living in Vermont and we had the reunion in
Shelburne one year and in Castleton another time. Before her death, June
1998, I would regularly attend the reunions with her. My attendance has
been lax since 1997. However, I am very proud of my heritage and the role
my ancestors played in establishing this country, especially in their co
urageous efforts for independence.
If you or Ted Harruff would like to correspond with me, my email is above
and I live in Natick,MA. Thanks for taking in the job of editor as the
newsletter is the glue that holds us all together.

I posted a question a few days ago about genetic disorders with the
Clough/Clow/Cluff and other related surnames. I got quite a few responses
back and have tallied them by family group, illness, whether paternal or
maternal line and connection to the John Clough Society if known. Some of
the respondents had more than one genetic-related illness. I hope this
looks ok on the message and not scrambled. Thanks. Rebecca Clough Harpole
