Hello Family,
If anyone in the Concord, NH area is going to the VS office sometime
and wouldn't mind doing a look-up for me, please let me know. I am
looking for some information on my grandfather Frank Anson Clough.
Thanks,

I was instructed to Email the Clough list and inquire on a Charles MORSE who
was born April 4, 1835. He is son of William MORSE and Almira WHITNEY. I
do not have a spouse or any children for Charles MORSE, but learned that a
possible Elvira CLOUGH married my Charles MORSE. Hopefully, someone out
there can assist me in this proof. Thank you.

Dear Garnet, Try looking around Edinburgh, Scotland. There are CLOWS
there, but it might be worth a shot. Spelling was variable. Also try
researching the 1700's list of Scottish immigrants who were transported to
America after the Battle of Culloden since you've heard the family were
Scottish. Philadelphia was a big port of entry for Europeans - maybe your
family settled in Pennsylvania after arrival. Another option is to try
the Dutch and/or German variation of Clauw which was sometimes revised to
Clough. The Palatines also arrived enmasse during the 1700s and
Philadelphia was one of the main ports for them as well. The Palatines
migrated to Ireland and Scotland prior to coming to America. They didn't
have to be Scottish to come FROM Scotland. Happy hunting. Rebecca Clough

JUST VISITED YOUR SITE. I AM A CLUGH, my father was paul vernon
clugh, his father, John Ulysses Clugh, then John's father was William
Clugh. born Dec. 7, 1829, William's father was Daniel Clugh and his
wife was Mary Null, Mary was born 25 Jan, 1811. I can go back no
further. Maybe we were Clough and changed the spelling as so many
names were changed. My family came from Oil City, PA. I was told we
were Scotch. Does any of this ring a bell. I'd love to hear back
from you. Garnet Clugh Frankenburger.
Who are the parents of William Sweet, husband of Hannah Clough
NAME: William Sweet
BORN: Ca 1772 in Rhode Island
DIED: Nov 7, 1854 in Gouverneur, NY ,buried in Richville, NY
PARENTS: Unknown
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
WIFE: Hannah Clough
BORN:Sept 18, 1775 in Stafford, Conn
DIED: Feb 10, 1868 in Gouverneur, NY, buried in Richville, NY
PARENTS: Ithamer and Bette (Heath) Clough
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
William Sweet left RI at a very early age and moved to Washington County,
New York There he married Hannah Clough (Ithimer2, Timothy1); about 1792.
They moved from Hartford, NY to Ticonderoga after 1816 where he bought a
200 acre tract of land in the Vineyard. Here he built the first squared
log house in town. When this house was built, the old log barn across the
road had already been built for some time, and many think it was one of
General Burgoyne's outposts. The old house was occupied by several
generations until destroyed by fire in Dec 27, 1927
They were still in Ticonderoga in 1820 and the census of 1830 stated
three SWEETs, William and his sons, Ithamer and James and it appeared that
they had farms neighboring each other. In the census of 1840, James was
still in Ticonderoga but William and Ithamer were not listed. I didn't find
William until 1850 and they were in Gouverneur, St Lawrence Co, NY where
they lived out their days. William died Nov 7th 1854 and was buried in
Wayside cemetery in Richville, NY. His wife Hannah continued to live on the
farm beside her daughter Phebe (Sweet) Dewey until her death on Feb 10,
1868 and she was buried beside her husband in Wayside cem. There is another
grave, that of Philip Sweet who died Jan 19, 1851 at the age of 82 yrs.
There was an Ithamer Sweet and wife that were buried in Ogdensburg, NY and I
am wondering if this Ithamer is William's son.

Dear Cousins,
Thought this Illinois marriages website might be of interest to some of
you--there are lots of Cloughs listed. This database is being created by the
Illinois State Archives and ISGS. A total of 84 out of 102 Illinois counties
are represented in the database. The goal of the project is to enter all
marriages prior to 1901 for all Illinois counties:
http://www2.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/marriage
Happy hunting!

Sue,
Thank you for posting is information.
I own a complete set of the books, and have spent hours researching in
them. What a wonderful project for Cornwell University to do, for the
genealogical research community.
Hopefully, others will take a chance and learn to use them.

You may be subscribed to both "regular mail" and "digest".
That would account for duplicate messages. Or, your mail
program may be set up so that you copy yourself into
messages you send. That would also account for it. (We
all receive a copy of every message sent to the list,
including our own.)
