Sheila your ditty on "I am my own grandpa" was great GREAT G R E A T!
I will be passing it on to my family.
Did you create it?
Thanks,

I am My Own Grandpa
Many, many years ago
When I was twenty three,
I got married to a widow,
Pretty as could be.
This widow had a grown-up daughter
With flowing hair of red.
My father fell in love with her,
And soon the two were wed.
This made my dad my son-in-law
And changed my very life.
Now my daughter was my mother,
For she was my father's wife.
To complicate the matters worse,
Although it brought me joy.
I soon became the father
Of a bouncing baby boy.
My little baby then became
A brother-in-law to dad.
And so became my uncle,
Though it made me very sad.
For if he was my uncle,
Then that also made him brother
To the widow's grown-up-daughter
Who, of course, was my step-mother.
Father's wife then had a son,
Who kept them on the run.
And he became my grandson,
For he was my daughter's son,
My wife is now my mother's mother
And it makes me blue.
Because, although she is my wife,
She's my grandma too.
If my wife is my grandmother,
Then I am her grandchild.
And every time I think of it,
It simply drives me wild.
For now I have become
The strangest case you ever saw.
As the husband of my grandmother,
I am my own grandpa!
Hello to all ,
Im still stuck in Shippensburg, Penn. Is there anyone out there in this
area.
I'm having no luck on my Hugh Wilson Clough-Clugh. Need to find his
parents and sibbs. How about;
John Eli Clough and wife Emeline Dubbs-Clough. buried in Shippensburg,PA.
He served in 130th inf. with a Thomas Clough. This is all I know of them.
Dose anybody know about them?
L.A.Clugh
Jerry,
I probably won't be of much help to you but looking at the the Genealogy of
the Descendants of John Clough of Salisbury, Vol 1 page 162, I find #293
ITHAMER (Timothy, Jonathan, John, John). b. 1749 Middletown CT. He
married Bette Heath and it lists their children, Hannah being the first
born and marrying William Sweet Sept 18, 1775. One thing that is different
about this entry is that Hanna's name is written in all capital letters
which indicates that the writers had some information on her and intended
to include it in the book as they did for her sister Elizabeth. Maybe back
in the Clough archives information that was used to create the book may
hold something on Hannah. If you don't have a copy of the book, I can copy
page 162 for you as well as the previous page which is a map showing the
location of Ithamer's farm in Washington County, NY
A distant cousin,

Just a word of encouragement, Jerry. Never give up. I searched
for the ancestors of Caira Hoisington, spouse of James Madison
Clough, for several years too. I had a photograph of her, and
a copy of their marriage license. It did not state her parents
names. Vt. V.R. had no birth cert. for her. I subscribed to
the Hoisington surname list. No connections. It was very
discouraging and frustrating. Finally, I located a complete
"American Family Hoisington" genealogy, written in 1934 by
Harry Hoisington. Harry had typed 4 carbon copies, plus an
original. There was Caira, and all her ancestors. So don't
give up. New members subscribe to this list fairly regularly.
Keep asking. One of these days someone will have the data you
need. Keep trying. :)

All anyone could find is that she married William Sweet and lived at
>Ticonderoga, NY.
It seems this is all anyone knows of Hannah Clough. I am at a
standstill and have been for quite some time. It seems she and William Sweet
were excluded for all researchers of the CLOUGH family. I have often
wondered --why. I have posted many queries in the past on the Clough mailing
list and receieved no info whatsoever. I guess it is fruitless to continue
but I am trying one more time.

had already been built for some time, and many think it was one of General

Hi Bernie,
I apologize for my oversight in that;
John and Jane were from Salisbury Mass. (born in Eng.)
I believe my next three generations;
Thomas, Zacheus, and Jabez, were also born in Salisbury.
Moses Sr. was b in Poplin N.H.
Moses Jr. b in Andover N.H.
James Madison Clough was b in Merrimack N.H.
Lyman Judson b. in Rochester Vt.
Eva May Clough was b. in Randolph Vt.

Hi Cloughers,
Oh boy. I new the day would come when someone would want a GEDCOM :-)
And why not? It would make life a lot easier. However, AT THIS TIME I
would rather not share the GEDCOM. I'm still inputting all of vol.
two. BTW, I'm not just inputting names and dates, but also residence,
occupation, spouse lineage, and reference number, etc. The software
that I use is FTM, so I include a source of GJC (Genealogy of John
Clough) for each entry I make, which can be a date, location, and the
stuff I mentioned above.
I also have my other ancestors in the same database (see my web site for
other surnames), so it's quite large. When I have time, I try to verify
information in the books with other sources and include that source in
FTM. I would like to eventually, if I live long enough, to verify each
birth, death, and marriage in the books, because, as Bonnie mentioned,
there are a lot of errors/discrepancies.
So, back to my delima of sharing a GEDCOM. I do plan to donate it to
the Clough Society and make it available to others, but would prefer to
wait until I have finished vol. II and have entered any lineages that
fellow Cloughers want to share. Why don't I want to share it now?
Well, if I do, in a very short period of time there will be several
versions and it would be very difficult to have an official version.
Not that my version has to be the official one, but does anyone else
have 10,200+ names or the entire two vol. set in their database? I know
Sheila does, but she is not willing to share in GEDCOM format.
BUT WAIT! I'm willing to send out indented lineages (look at a
non-Clough/Cluff surname on my web site for an example) to anyone.
So, it's hard for me to say no to GEDCOM at this time, but hey, I'm
willing to in the future. For now, visit my site, ask me questions, ask
for an indented list, etc.

O.K. It seems to me we're going to have to give this
some thought as to how we should handle it...We don't
want to reinvent the wheel here.:) I'm getting private
mail from everyone who has the data, so we need to decide
what the best way to share it with new members, and each
other, would be.
We're all agreed that we will share, correct?? So here's
what we have:
1. Many of us own the hard copy books, "The Genealogy of
the Descendants of John Clough of Salisbury Mass."
(BTW, we also know there are a lot of errors in them)
But we're all willing to do lookups, I think?
2. Gail Buckler has the contents of Vol. 1 on her web
page at present, and is working on inputting the
data from Vol II. (Are you willing/able to share
the data in Gedcom format with listmembers also, Gail?)
Gail Buckler <gbuckler(a)tiac.net>
http://www.tiac.net/users/gbuckler
3. Jackie has a large file containing the Clough lineages
of the members of Clough-L. This includes descendant
data that is more up to date than what we have in Vol
I & II. She can share that in Gedcom format, either
by snail mail on diskette, or electronically.
<jackieg_97(a)yahoo.com>
4. Sheila has inputted the Clough data from both Vol I & II
plus other data....(And that's available to us....how Sheila?)
Can you also send it either by snail or electronically?
Sheila will also respond to queries.
CloughGen(a)aol.com
5. George has volunteered to co-ordinate our data with his own
large database, if we decide to send it out to new members
that way...or direct them to who they can obtain it from.
"George W. Estey" <GEstey(a)compuserve.com>
6. Joshua has links to Gail's page, Al Pott's page, and others,
on the Clough Web page. I have a link to Gail's page from
my page also...(Josh is ahead of me with links though)
Clough Web Page: http://genweb.net/~clough
joshuan(a)earthlink.net
7. Right now, I'm sending a message to new members with the
URL's, and other information, guiding them to what we do
have available...And I have links to Gail, and the Clough
page on my own page. (But I have only inputted a very
small amount of Clough data as yet.)
bonnie(a)Capital.Net
http://www.capital.net/~bonnie/
Did I forget anyone?? Didn't mean to. Meanwhile, we have
Clough-L members who are still searching for their link, if
any, to John and Jane.
So, let's think about this, discuss it on list, and decide how
best to handle and co-ordinate it all...

Dear Cousins,
I was hurt to read that I am not willing to share information in GEDCOM
format. What I am not willing to share is my file as a whole (25,900
individuals) which also includes my father's family information from Denmark
and his 2nd wifes family information as well. I have ALWAYS been willing to
share the information in my file, however, I do this via US mail so that I may
send people what information I have on their line(s) in many forms not just a
line descendant chart. Along with the charts I send family group sheets where
I highlight missing or uncertain information that the recipient can fill in
and send back to me thus updating their line(s). I am not as computer savvy
as some of you are so I am also not able to send certain things via e-mail. I
have also found that when people send GEDCOM files to me I am not able to open
the file as a whole. For example, the file itself will only allow 6
generations to show on the ancestry and decendant charts even though there is
much more information that can be seen. When I send people information via US
mail I can print out everything for them. So much, sometimes, that I am often
afraid of overwhelming them with the amount of information.
I have been inputting as much information as I can in order to create a new
volume or volumes for the Society since the original two have so many
discrepancies. Along with having entered the information from both volumes of
Clough books some time ago I have done more research in order to input the
spouses ancestry as well. You never know where you will find connections and
I have found lots of them by inputting the spouses information. By inputting
so much information that has been sent to me and doing some research on my own
I am often able to correct information that is incorrect in the volumes. Then
I am able to provide more correct information to those that request in the
future.
So many of you have done such a fine job in answering many of the requests
sent to the list. I answer them as well (along with those sent to me
personally via e-mail or US mail) in hopes of being of some assistance and
introducing myself as the genealogist for the Society. I apologize if I do
not respond to some of you in a time frame suitable for you. Besides having
piles of great information that has been sent to me sitting on my desk waiting
to be inputted, I have been working 60-90 hours a week between my two jobs and
simply do not always have the time to do the research I would like to do.
Fortunately, working so many hours a week will not last too much longer and I
will have more time to devote to inputting all this great information and
increasing the size of the new volume(s).
Again, I am VERY willing to share the information I have and feel that it is
my responsibility to do so as the genealogist for the Society. It is great to
see so many people that are so willing to share what information they have and
I am sure that as a group we will be able to continue to help each other and
not step on each others toes in the process.
Sincerely,
Sheila Andersen
Genealogist,
John Clough Genealogical Society
Hi Cousins:
Tried to reach Jackie at the Yahoo address shown but it was not delivered
because there was no such account. I hope that she get s this by the means of
this E-Mail Discussion Group.
Sincerely,
Bernie Bland
Hi Cousins :
I have noted with interest the listings lately of the ancestry of many
Clough Family members on this discussion group. In all of these listings I
have not see any reference to the locality or the State where these
individuals resided. Am I to understand that all of the Clough Family came
from the same state, which seems to be somewhere in New England. Your response
will be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Bernie Bland
Hi George & Cloughers,
Another of my projects is to enter everyone's lines once I've finished
entering volumn two of the Clough books. This may not be for quite a
while, so keep them coming! I save the postings, but it will be great
to get them from one location in case I miss any. I will contact
everyone before posting their line on the web (dates would not be
visible for those still living) via their email address.

Hello,
It's is so rewarding to me to see that my work is helping others. I was
thrilled when my name & website were mentioned in the last Clough
newsletter. I showed it to my husband :-)
I do want to clarify what I have on my web site, though. At this point,
I only (ha, only!) have the contents of volumn one. I'm working on
volumn two - I should be through with the eighth generation this week.
So, if you don't see a connection, you're welcome to send me an inquiry
and I can look in my latest database. I may not have entered a
critical generation yet! Also, in volumn two, it sometimes includes
entries that were left out of the first volumn.
Once I finish this volumn, I'll add it to my web site.
As always, if you find mistakes on my site, please let me know.

Hi everyone,
I though the submitting of the lineages is a great idea, especially for the
new folks on the list ( which I am one). The folowing is mine:
John and Jane Clough
Samuel Clough and Elizabeth Brown
Elizabeth Clough and Samuel Hunt
Isaiah Hunt and Ruth Lunt
Isaiah Hunt and Sarah Stickney
Henry S. Hunt and Elizabeth Gardener Jackson
Abigail Hunt and Nathan Jellison
Nathan Jellison and Susan Kneeland
Rebecca Nettie Jellison and Edwin S Brown
Milton S Brown and Delia Greelish
Milton E Brown and Anita L Jutras
Robert E Brown and Karen M Brown
Timothy R Brown (Me) and Kim M Dolan
and my two children Amanda L and Ryan T.
Any comments please let me know...Thanks, Tim
Hi Bonnie,
Your suggestion for someone to put together a list of all of the lineages
of our group is one I could tackle. I believe I have all of them tucked
away on a 3.5" disk. I will need some time to search through the files
to get them all. Maybe, when complete, the file should be one that a
new subscriber or one of us who have been in the group for a while could
get by sending a request for it?
Well here is my re-issue of my line back to John and Jane
George
RE: Copy of: Clough Line - re-issue
Hello Cousins,
It seems that a new wave of Clough Lines are being placed out on CLOUGH-L. This is most likely because we continue to get more cousins signing up. For the benefit of those who are new to CLOUGH-L I am placing my line back to John & Jane as others have already done.

Good points, Jerry. The first point - encouraging new members
to post their lineages - I do have covered. I send each new
subscriber a message inviting them to do that, and also give them
the URL for the Clough Web page, the Chat room, Gail's URL, etc.
One of these days I'll get around to putting that info into the
Clough-L "Welcome" message, and it will go out automatically when
people subscribe. :) I'll paste it in below, so you can see what
I'm sending out. Actually I was sending it to the list, and decided
it was better to just send it as people subscribed, only to them,
because of what you're saying. I thought listmembers would get
tired of seeing it and having to delete it over and over...
Your second point - sending a list of lineages of current members -
could be done the same way I'm now sending the message with the
URL's etc. No problem to put our lineages into one file and send
it out to people as they subscribe...Any volunteers for putting this
file together for me? I know I saved all the first ones we posted a
few months ago. If someone wants to put the file together and send
it to me, I'll be happy to e-mail it to people as they sub to the
list.
Below is what I'm sending now:

Hi,
1. Welcome to Clough-L. In addition to our Clough discussion list,
we have a Clough Web page at the following site.
http://genweb.net/~clough
Joshua Nave, a member of our list, is in charge of this page.
He welcomes photos, data for the page, or will be happy to add
links to other Clough Family pages, (if you have one). Contact
him at:
joshuan(a)earthlink.net.
2. Just for fun, a "Clough-L Chat Room" is also provided for members
of Clough-l, on my web site. Find it by going to the following URL.
http://www.capital.net/~bonnie/
Scroll 1/2 way down the main page, & click on "Genealogy". Scroll down
that page until you see, "Clough-L Chat Room". Click on that. Be
patient. The chat room may take as long as 1 or 2 minutes to load.
(You must have a JAVA enabled web browser to access the chat room.)
Once the chat room has loaded, type in your first name, and click on
"O.K. Connect" and you're in the chat room. If you want to chat, you
might want to drop a note to this list first, saying you'll be in the
chat room, and then some of us will join you. The Chat room is available
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you may use it whenever you wish.
3. If you are descended from John and Jane Clough of Salisbury, MA and would
like to join the John Clough Genealogical Society, send $10 (yearly dues)
and a copy of your lineage as you know it, to:
John Clough Genealogical Society
P.O. Box 239
Marshfield Hills, MA. 02051
4. To see the data that's in the "Genealogy of the Descendants of
John Clough of Salisbury MA":
Gail Buckler <gbuckler(a)tiac.net>
http://www.tiac.net/users/gbuckler
5. To contact the genealogist for the John Clough Genealogical Society,
e-mail:
Sheila Andersen...........CloughGen(a)aol.com
6. To contact the Editor of the (hardcopy) newsletter for the JCGS, e-mail:
Carl Cluff Sr...........SptJock(a)aol.com
7. To contact me about any difficulty you may have with Clough-L list mail,
e-mail:
Bonnie S. Dannenberg....bonnie(a)Capital.Net
Recently several of us have reposted our Clough lineages on Clough-L.
You're invited to post your Clough lineage also. Many list members
have found that we're closely related, and we'd be happy to exchange
data with you.

Hi Cousins!
Just wanted to update you all on my trip last weekend. It was great -
especially the part of meeting CJ & Judy!
Also, Judy suggested that maybe we should resubmit our lineages
seeing we have a lot of new folks on this list. So I will be the
first to do this. I realize that this is "old stuff" to those of us
that have been around for some time, but I think it is a good idea for
you new folks to learn where the rest of us come from!
1) John & Jane Clough
2) Thomas Clough & Ruth Connor
3) Zacheus Clough & Sarah Page
4) Jabez Clough & Miriam Brown
5) Moses Clough & Molly Cram
6) Wadleigh Clough & Hannah Scribner
7) Anson Clough & Sarah Campbell
8) Ephraim Clough & Harriet Whitney
9)Frank Clough & Ellen Bruse
10) Harry Clough & Irene Ouellet (or Willette)
11) Emma Clough & George Gauthier
12) Jacalyn Gauthier (ME!) & Alan Gilligan
If any of you folks out there see a name that you may have been
looking for please feel free to email me at this address or at
gilligan(a)algorithms.com
See Ya!
Jackie
