Hi Ronnie,
Thanks for posting to the list!
Wayne is not currently a member. However, thanks to a magazine Dean and
Martha Clough in Illinois sent me, we had a couple of articles in our bulletin
about him.
I received an e-mail from him and need to get back to him. Thanks for the
reminder! I am hoping he and his wife will grace us with their presence at
next year's reunion.
Please give my best to your Ciro!
All the Best,
Sheila

Hi Listers,
Stumbled upon this last week and I am very curious about him. In the NY
Times there was an article last week about Gerald Wayne Clough named "
Secretary Of the Smithsonian Institute." He has an impressive background. He has a
PHD in civil engineering and was the President of Georgia Tech.
Now to the imending question, Is he a member of the Society and does he
stem from our John? I would love to know. Thanks in advance.

I found a listing for the Richard Clough of the Winthrop fleet , He came the Isle of Man of England. I found a site for the Isle of Man where he was listed as lived there, hope this helps those who are researching him. thanks Judy
G'day Folks,
Here in New Zealand is was the 10th, and even though we are thousands
of kilometers away our hearts went out to the people who lost their
lives and the complete devastation of the lives of the families who
lost loved ones.
We lost 2 Kiwis in the Towers and we where as shocked as the rest of the world.
In Christchurch NZ where I live there is a memorial to the Firemen
who lost there lives. It is called the Firefighters Memoral with
steel from the buildings from the Towers as the focal point. The
steel was shipped over to NZ to be place on the reserve. The monument
is situated on the backs on the Avon river here in Christchurch next
to our main fire station. It is a peaceful place, a fitting place
where you can sit and reflect about this terrible incident in US
History and also world history. So if you ever get down under it is
worth the time to have a look at this memorial to all the brave men
and woman who lost their lives.
Kind Regards to all
Owen Clough

Shiela,
That was a very touching story about your trip to Wales. Not every body in
the world hates us. This may be true in Iraq. We must remind ourselves
that, I think, there were people from something like 60 countries who died
that day. We must not forget that day by commemorating it each year, just
as we do Pearl Harbor Day when over 2,000 Americans died. Then tens of
thousands more Americans died exacting revenge on the perpetrators and
defeating a nation of imperialists. It's happening all over again. It
seems half of our nation wants to quit, withdraw, bring our troops home, and
hope the terrorists will leave us alone. What naive dreamers they are! I
think we're lucky they haven't blown up a Sunday football game with
60-70,000 people. Then they blow up the emergency responders. I don't
understand people who want to turn their backs on these thugs and walk away,
like it will never happen again. They must be afraid to stand up to them
and make them pay, like bullies in the schoolyard.
We had an aftershock the day after 9-11 when we learned that one of our
neighbors died in the plane that hit the second WTC building. He was a
Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marine sailing out of the West Coast. He
left a wife and two teenage children. The whole neighborhood donated to a
nearby memorial stone and plaque. It touched us all whether we knew
anybody, or not.

Tears came to my eyes when I read this moving message from my cousin. I too
remember that day and how our boss sent us home from my office.
I remember Sheila calling me and contacting all the other travelers to find
out first, IF we still wanted to go, and second, who would be able to
change their plans to go 3 weeks later... Those of us fortunate enough to be
able to go at a later date determined that we would, in our own small way
show "them" that "they" could not and would not scare or intimidate us into
hiding and prevent us from being who we are... FREE AMERICANS!!!
I'm proud of our litte group who ventured so far from home at a time when
the world was in such chaos. I cherish the memories of that first trip and
the outpouring of sympathy, support, admiration and appreciation given us by
the wonderful people of our british ancestral homeland.

Dear Listers,
Like all of you, I remember quite clearly where I was seven years ago today.
I had taken the day off from work to prepare for the First Clough Family
Trip to Great Britain that I had put together and was leading in just two days
time.
I was horrified as I watched CNN and saw the planes crash into the twin
towers. Then I was in complete shock when I saw the towers fall and realized the
massive loss of life.
After watching those events unfold over and over again for quite a while, I
had to bring myself back to the present moment. Although a trip seems
miniscule in scope compared to the horrendous events we saw unfold, I knew I had
Clough folks from all over the US, in Mexico, and in Great Britain who were,
not only horrified by the events of that day, but in total bewilderment as to
how the subsequent grounding of all US flights was going to affect our trip
scheduled to depart Sept. 13.
The travel company I used for the trip was located in Boston. When I called
up there to find out what we were going to do, they were in such panic that
they were all leaving and going home not knowing whether more of our cities
were going to be attacked.
Eventually, after many phone calls between me, my travelers, and the travel
company, we were able to postpone our trip by three weeks. This meant the
loss of six of our travelers due to scheduling conflicts but at least we were
able to go.
In an odd way, this postponement led us to experience one of the most
significant and emotional aspects of our tour. While we were in Wales we were able
to celebrate the Welsh Thanksgiving by attending an ancient church attended
by the Williams-Ellis family (descendants of Sir Richard Clough). The
service was in Welsh but the Rector also spoke in English when he saw our group
arrive. At the end of the service he pointed out that the ladies of the church
had made the traditional Welsh Thanksgiving food offering. However, to our
amazement they had also made an arrangement for all who perished on that
fateful day just three weeks previous and had included the American flag.
As if that was not amazing enough, the church organist then played our
national anthem. Tears filled all of our eyes with a mixture of appreciation for
those lovely folks who included us in their service and deep sadness for all
who were lost. The eyes of the Welsh in attendance were also wet with fellow
feeling.
That type of amazing outpouring found my group on every part of our trip.
We saw many, many tributes to those who perished and the Brits were more
accommodating than usual for my group of American's.
None of us will be the same as we were before 9/11. May we daily be
grateful for who and what we have in our lives and concentrate on the good. Our
collective positive thoughts and actions will go far in, not only healing from
this tragedy and others, but in paving the way for a better today and each
tomorrow.
Much Affection To All,

Any help out there? I have absolutely nothing on my CLOUGH (Cluff)/DUGAN
family except for the following:
Barney (Bernard) CLOUGH married Margaret DUGAN. Our family records suggest
Margaret DUGAN came from Donegal. I only know of one child, my
gg-grandfather, John CLOUGH, born abt 1820 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The date of this son's birth is the basis for the total guess on their
marriage being abt 1819, but it really could be much sooner than that. We
could assume that Barney and Margaret were born about late 1700s or around
turn of the century.
Their son John CLOUGH married Ellen O'DONNELL (b abt 1830), also born in
Philadelphia. JOHN and ELLEN had 2 sons, Joseph Francis, b 4 Jun 1860 (my
g-grandfather), and Bernard (b abt 1862), both raised in Philadelphia.
Somewhere in this time period, spelling of last name switched to CLUFF.
Can anyone give me a push? Mary Wilson

Folks,
The above was found in this morning's RootsWeb PML Search I have set up as a
List Admin. I'm sending it to both CLOUGH-GENEALOGY and CLUFF Mailing Lists
to get it stored in the archives for future researchers. I know nothing
more than is included in this message. This is not my branch of the family.
Please follow instructions in the message above on how to reach this person
who is making the inquiry. Of course it would be great if you sent a copy
of your message to either or both mailing lists. I've never heard of this
branch of the family.

Dear Listers,
I encourage all of you to look at our JCGS web site at _www.JohnCloughGS.com_
(http://www.JohnCloughGS.com) . Our Web Master, Don Clough II, has done a
lovely job and has recently done some updating. He will soon be posting some
photos from our 2008 JCGS reunion.
Please let us know if there are certain items you would like to see added to
our lovely site.
Best Wishes,
