Dear Dani,
Thanks for your Clough query! :-)
I have looked into my huge Clough database and have not come across your
Jennie Clough. Do you have anymore info on Hamilton Clough? His birthdate?
His parents?
The only two Hamilton Clough's I have in my file are:
Hamilton Clough (no birth or death dates) whose parents where Enoch Clough
and Fanny Heath.
Hamilton Clough (no birth or death dates) whose parents where Ephraim
Clough, Jr. and Sarah Richardson. This Hamilton has three children listed:
Unknown, James, and Juliana.
Neither of the Hamilton's have wives listed.
Sorry my info is limited. Hopefully you will be able to uncover some
additional information and I will be able to find your line in my database. Please
contact me privately at _CloughGen(a)aol.com_ (mailto:CloughGen@aol.com) and I
will give you some suggestions on how you might find some of your missing
info.
Looking forward to hearing back from you! :-)
Best Wishes,
Sheila Andersen

Hi,
I am hopeful that you may have some information that can assist me in the
search for my Clough roots. My Great Grandmother was Jennie Clough, born
April 9 1883. Her parent's names were Hamilton and Rachel Clough. I know
that Jennie attended school in Metamora, OH in 1895 and Married Albert
Higley in 1902. This is all I know. Is anyone familiar with Hamilton,
Rachel, or Jennie Clough?
With Warmest Regards,
Dani Coss

Dear Dean and All,
There was a Richard Clough who came over on one of the initial Winthrop
Fleet ship's in April 1630. He was a Tailor and is said to have settled in
Charlestown. I believe this is the family from which the Clough House in Boston
comes from.
Our John Clough, although arriving in Charlestown, by all accounts went
north. It seems he may have been "indentured" for the 4 years we loose track of
him between his arriving in mid summer 1635 and his settling in Salisbury, MA
in 1639. This was common back then and may account for this lapse in time.
Whether there is any relation between our John Clough and the Richard Clough
who was a Tailor remains unknown. It is surmised from Winthrop Fleet
historian's that Richard Clough probably came from Suffolk, England.
All we know of our John Clough is that he boarded the ship 'Elizabeth' in
London (possibly having lived there) and that the Y chromosome DNA of his
direct male line descendants matches the Y chromosome DNA of the direct male line
descendants of Sir Richard Clough.
>From recent research I have done I have learned that there were Clough's in
the East Anglia region of England (Suffolk, Norfolk, etc.) but it seems their
ancestry took them back to the Yorkshire Clough's. The Yorkshire Clough's
have a different Y chromosome DNA pattern than do the descendants of our John
Clough or the descendants of Sir Richard Clough.
Let me reiterate for the record: although the Y chromosome DNA of the direct
male line descendants of our John Clough matches the Y chromosome DNA of the
direct male line descendants of Sir Richard Clough, by all accounts we are
NOT descended from Sir Richard Clough. His descendancy has been very well
documented.
Because the Y chromosome carried by Sir Richard Clough would have been
inherited from his father - Richard Clough Yr Hen - the brother's of Sir Richard
Clough would have inherited the same Y chromosome DNA. Therefore, we COULD be
descended from one of Sir Richard Clough's brother's. We know that they
were also merchant's and at least one of them lived in London.
Hope this helps! :-)
Best Wishes,
Sheila Andersen

Dear Cousin,
Your email is very interesting. When I lived in downtown Boston, I attended the Old North Church (Episcopal) as my home parish, and, since the Old North Church owns the Clough House, I have been in the building many times. But I don't know if that Clough is the same as our John I. Were there other Cloughs in Boston at the time? It is my understanding that Mr Clough didn't live there, but was the builder or carpenter. I think it would be very interesting to know the actual facts about this House.
Additionally, I have found Clough gravestones in the Granary, King's Chapel, and Copp's Hill cemeteries. Again, I don't know if they are "our Cloughs". If Sheila has any answers or anyone else, I think it would be veryinteresting to know. Gwen bronson

Hi Dean, Did I meet you years ago at a reunion in Hudon, New
Hampshire? Your name sounds awefully familiar. Anyway, does this article
call it the Clough-Langdon House? If so, we do have several articles on
this project. If it's another house, it's news to me.

It has to do with the restoration of the Clough House adjacent to the
Old North Church in Boston. It was purlished in Summer, 1961. It is
possible, in fact more likely probable, that you are already aware of
this article and that its existance is old news to you. If so, I do not

To the hard working cousins:
I have not been a very faithful family member as to all that is going on. However, I have a sincere interest and love for the history of our family.
I have in my possession an article entitled "Clough House Retoration." It has to do with the restoration of the Clough House adjacent to the Old North Church in Boston. It was purlished in Summer, 1961. It is possible, in fact more likely probable, that you are already aware of this article and that its existance is old news to you. If so, I do not wish to burden you with such "old news." Without taking time to explain the article in detail, I will be glad to send it along if, in fact, it is of interest to you.
Regards to all!

Sheila Clough, Gwen Bronson and I had the honor of being able to
attend the calling hours and memorial service for Jane yesterday in
Marshfield. It was a wonderful tribute to a wonderful lady. There were
so many people paying their respects, and upholding the family in prayer.
The walls were adorned with some of Jane's beautiful paintings, and
there were many photographs chronicling the wonderful life they were
blessed to share. John's tribute to Jane moved many to tears.
We has the pleasure of meeting their children, Paula, Linda and David,
and reacquainting ourselves with John ("Jack") whom we met at the JCGS
reunion this year, and some of their children. John is blest.
