Dear Steve,
Thank you for your interest in DNA analysis. However, the type of DNA
analysis that is most helpful with traditional genealogical research is Y
chromosome analysis. The Y chromosome is passed from father to son only - just like
a surname (typically). Therefore, only men are candidates for this type of
analysis.
You stated that your mother's maiden name was Clough. Did she have any
brothers? If so, are they alive? Are there any male Clough's in your family?

The price of the trip cannot be determined this far out. The price is

Dear Craig,
Thanks for joining my list and posting to it! :-)
How wonderful that your daughter is heading out to Europe! :-)
The best way to see most of the Clough related places we currently know
about would be by joining one of the Clough Family Trip's I put together. I am
able to obtain access for my groups that individuals are unable to obtain.
The folks who live there are quite private and would rather open up their homes
seldomly to the groups I bring rather than frequently to folks here and
there.
Also, it is difficult for family members to fully appreciate the places
visited if they are not guided with a bit of a commentary on just how the places
pertain to the Clough family.
However, one very public place your daughter should certainly visit is
Portmeirion in western Wales. This was built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis - a
descendant of Sir Richard Clough. We found through DNA analysis that we have a
genetic connection to Sir Richard Clough. Although we are not descended from
him we may be descended from one of his brother's or paternal uncles.
A couple of additional places she may enjoy are St. Asaph Cathedral in St.
Asaph, Wales where Richard Butler Clough was Cannon as well as St. Marcella's
Church just outside Denbigh, Wales. It is said that Sir Richard Clough's
heart was interred in the wall at St. Marcella's.
Will your daughter be traveling alone or in a group? Will she be driving
herself around or taking the train? Depending on her itinerary, I may be able
to arrange to have one of our distant cousins meet up with her and take her
around for a day. Let me know what her arrangements are and perhaps we can
make a go of that idea.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Best Wishes,
Sheila Andersen
