Hey all,
Sorry for the delay, but it has been quite busy aroubnd here lately. Gavyn was born on August 16th at 10:16 pm. He was 8 pounds 9 Ounces and 21 inches, and all is going well. We will get out some pictures in the next few days as I get them on the computer.

Dear Listers,
I have been eager to put together another 'Clough Family Trip to Great
Britain' for some time now. There are additional places to bring family members,
more folks to have family members meet, and much research has continued into
seeking out the origins of the Clough family. Thankfully, we have Rebecca
Clough Harpole who has done, and continues to do, wonderful research. She and
I sometimes have long e-mail's and chats on what we have found.
With a son who is 21 months old, there are some inherent issues in leading a
group that I am not finding easy to resolve. The bottom line is that I
would need someone to go with us who is dedicated to caring for Rhys so that I
may effectively lead the group. There are also certain places where he would
be unable to go. Leaving him home for such a long time is simply not an
option.
Bringing a young child on board a plane just became more of a nightmare
yesterday. As you already know, with the foiled terror plot in Britain the
airlines are basically not allowing carry on bags. How does one keep a young
child entertained on a plane for 6 to 8 hours when one is unable to bring
anything on board? There are going to be many, many problems for the airlines now.
For those of us with children, we need to bring certain items (i.e. certain
food, drink, and entertainment items) on board in order to avoid listening to
screaming echo through the aircraft for the duration of the flight. For
those with diabetes, they are unable to be separated from their much needed
medical supplies as well as simple food items like crackers and juice. With more
than the normal number of bags being checked in at the moment, some folks
are getting to their destinations without their checked in bags. The aircrafts
are simply unable to hold the additional cargo. Time will tell how the
airlines will work out these issues.
Without getting political, it is a real shame that we live in such a society
where we are targets of such hatred. At the moment those of us who simply
want to travel from point A to point B and back again are finding it more
difficult that it is worth.
My other issue with putting together another Clough group trip is financial.
When I work a normal week I am paying over $300 for Rhys's care.
Thankfully I can sometimes count on my father and his wife to babysit, and sometimes
Rhys's dad, when I do overtime on my normal days off. With the amount I pay
out weekly for Rhys's care I could easily purchase a new car yearly. This has
created a terrible financial burden that I am currently unable to find a way
out of. Part of the reason I pay so much is because I work second shift and
I do not have the family assistance others do. I sometimes end up taking
days off during the year in order to avoid paying a sitter for a day or two.
This eats up my vacation time. Without the vacation time I am unable to go on
a week or ten day trip.
So, as you can see, I have some very real hurdles to overcome in order to do
a much wanted 3rd Clough family trip. Planning the trip is no problem. I
excel at doing those types of things, even with Rhys. However, the issues
listed above are what have prevented me from offering another trip at the moment.
I simply wanted to keep you updated on the possibility of when we can do
another trip. I will continue to try to resolve the difficult issues that are
currently preventing me from making a 3rd trip a reality.
If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me
personally.
Best Wishes to All,
Sheila Andersen
