Hi list. Hope someone's listening in :-)
I have my gr gr gr grandmother Betsey Clough of Arundel, ME m. to John
Brown in Wells, ME. From my notes,
> marriage intention filed 5 Feb 1790 Wells, Maine (vital
> records...birth, marriage, death Wells, ME online at NEHGS)
I also have 1850 Census showing Betsey Brown still alive in 1850 aged
88. Based on this her birth year would be ca. 1762.
I also have her name on Revolutionary War pension records. What I DON'T
have is any link of Betsey to the Clough line of John Clough from
Salisbury, MA although I think it's inevitable that such link will
appear...somewhere.
Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of
Worcester County mentions on page 444 a 3d? generation descendant of
John Clough of Salisbury who removed from Salisbury to Kittery, ME then
to Arundel and whose age and that of nine listed children would place
him in the approximately right time frame and location. This would be
Samuel Clough, son of Thomas, son of John. He married Hannah Hutchins
2/14/1736/37. The above named publication lists nine children but NO
Betsey/Elizabeth.
I've seen a copy of "The Story of the Family of John Clough of
Salisbury, Ma" on eBay in CD-ROM format but the ad show no photos and
the seller has several other similar listings for other genealogical
products. Don't know if I trust it to be a legitimate offer.
All assistance gratefully accepted!

Hello Adam, my Clough family is from Brown County, Outagamie County and
Winnebago County. Do you know what the I stands for in William's middle name? To
find out William's parents look for an obit. Also is William buried in a
family section of cemetery? Look to see who is buried nearby with the Clough name.
William doesn't show up in Ancestry.com census records for 1920 or 30. I
found a William and Loraine wedding announcement in Oshkosh Dailey Newspaper
that said William Jr. parents are William Sr. from Waupan, WI. Also find William
Clough and Jacob Snider (my ggUncle) attending a funeral in Oshkosh and they
are from Sniderville which is in Outagamie Co., Kaukauna Twp. in 1899. Your
biggest lead is William Sr. from Waupun. Just a few items that I found. Also
your grandmother is in the paper many times with her ties to Mercy Hospital
and your father being accepted into school there. Found your gggrandparents in
Fond du lac County, Waupun, in 1930 census with your grandfather age 18.
According to newspaper they did eventually move to Oshkosh too. Anyway this is
something to go on. There are probably two Williams born in 1800's in WI but
it is possible that William Sr. did live in Sniderville for awhile. They seem
to move to Oshkosh and surrounding towns for the work it provided.
